David Adickes turns 92!! (pt. 1 of Artists of Disegno)

The well known artist just turned 92 yesterday (January 19). For those who haven’t had the pleasure to meet Adickes, you’re missing out on knowing the greatest legend of our time.

Adickes was born January 19, 1927 in Huntsville, TX. When he turned 18, he joined the Air Force in WWII. He fought for just a year and came home for college at Sam Houston State College (now University).

(He eventually came back to give this monument to his hometown).

He received his BS in Physics/Mathematics after 3 years. He then moved on to Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City for a semester. Ultimately, he ended up back in France, being mentored by none other than Atelier Fernand Légar in Paris.

After two years, he came back to the States and two years later, he was an instructor at Texas University in Austin for a year.

Soon after, he moved to Houston and started making more of his work, which was getting recognized.

Adickes is still working in his warehouse on new pieces as we speak. He doesn’t let his age stop him. Happy Birthday David! I am so lucky to know you. You’re a wonderful soul and I love you. Can’t wait to see what you put out next!
