Our "Implicate" Responsibility and Relationship to Addiction and Addicts

in #addiction8 years ago

I've previously written about a "fight or flight" implication in regard to addicts whereby there is an observable phenomenon that most affected families can attest to. When we approach a fallen friend or family member in such a way that we begin to cross their newly formed core beliefs (ie "My drugs are my #1) there is elicited a "fight or fight" response, which can be seen from a rational perspective as a product of our evolution.

Nobody likes their core beliefs being seriously questioned.

I have come to understand this more as I begin to approach this "problem" from this angle.

It is interesting that there is a relationship between, the consciousness, the psyche, the individual, the brain etc. and society, or what I refer to as propriety (ie the social norm).

We tend to think that an addicts addiction, the substance, and the chemical change it brings about in the brain, is the sole and primary cause for stealing, lying, fleeing etc.

But, with the explanation above we can observe that there IS in fact a relation to propriety.

I have written otherwise about how propriety, could be, should be, and will be, the mechanism for leading, controlling, and maintaining order in regard to our AI systems.

We often fear a future relationship between robots/AI and mankind, being worried that eventually such intelligence will see man as inferior and not useful and so we believe perhaps that logic and reason will cause such technology to eradicate "us".

But logic and reason, especially in regard to evolution, suggests the most intelligent implementation of AI would be to attach it's inner workings, its moral code, to propriety. In this way, provided the AI follows such a code, there can be no reasoning to justify annihilating society, unless society itself evolves to want to destroy itself, and so no such AI system can come to the logical and moral conclusion that such actions are justified or reasonable.

Since this is in itself and in my opinion IS reasonable, then no such system would try to move behind such rationality/responses.

And so we start to see the relationship but the future evolution of "the brain" in regard to AI and propriety and we can think of this relationship and implication and begin to think about it in regard to the individuals' brain and society today.

That is to say, I think I have laid the grounds here, to suggest the propriety, or the collective, has a great responsibility and relationship to the individual brain.

Just a very long winded way of pointing out how much of an effect we truly might have on the mental health of another individual.

By yielding to their core beliefs, and somehow working around them, we might then be able to put ourselves in a better position to "help". Or, that is to say, its not at all necessarily true that an addict must "choose" to get better, but rather we can make implicate changes in our perspective and approach with fallen friends or family members, and have a great impact on what we otherwise usually refer to as their "chances" of success.
