Adam's books: Leonardo da Vinci & the end of jobs? 4 fine specimens for your reading delight!
Following on from yesterday's chit-chat on books and reading. Here are a few of a list I started to put together for one one of my sites… a good set to add to your repertoire!
Eat, Move, Sleep by Tom Rath
Greatness, is consistency on the fundamentals
I don’t know who said that originally… probably many people – and often – as it’s true. And what more fundamental can you get than eating, moving and sleeping. Your diet, your exercise and your rest. To say these are essential and the cornerstone of everything would be an understatement.
Some of it’s obvious, some not so much and some of it a gentle reminder with perhaps another angle on these topics. Either way, a good read and excellent resource.
I've read this twice about a year ago and one to refer back to. It dwells somewhere within my Kindle, so I can have a scan back as and when.
The ONE Thing by Gary Keller
Great book on productivity and priorities. One of the best personal development books I’ve read, and I’ve seen a few. Fairly simple and straightforward concept, but that’s the point. Essentially focusing on a single task or goal to achieve success.
Obviously Gary goes in to a bit more detail on techniques and examples but you get the idea. Probably the most important thing to handle in this day and age – how and where you focus your time and mental energy.
Actually, I might go back for another look at this one soon - I still need to learn how to focus! (possibly even more so now ;)).
The End Of Jobs by Taylor Pearson
Interesting and important book on the nature of work – past, present and future! Two readings for this one as well and it sums up the changes in the ‘workplace’ over the years. More and more we’re moving to digital, with people working all over the world… traditional employment essentially being dead as we enter a new paradigm.
From Amazon:
“Those that don’t adapt are becoming trapped in the downward spiral of a dying middle class – working harder and earning less. Entrepreneurs that understand the new paradigm, have created unprecedented wealth in their lives and the lives of those they love”
And where does Steemit and Blockchain fit in, Taylor? Perhaps that's his next book!
Think Like Da Vinci by Michael Gelb
Principles based around the methods of the great renaissance man and ‘boosting your everyday genius’. Apparently this guy achieved a few things in his life so perhaps worth emulating or at least studying a little! As well as a bit of background on Leo, you’ll learn:
- Curiosità – An insatiable quest for knowledge and continuous improvement
- Dimostrazione – Learning from experience
- Sensazione – Sharpening the senses
- Sfumato – Managing ambiguity and change
- Arte/Scienza – Whole-brain thinking
- Corporalità – Body-mind fitness
- Connessione – Systems thinking
As you can see, you’ll also get a chance to brush up on your Italian; 7 words of it anyway. It would be good go go through this one again and actually distill it down to its various components. Could be another Steemit series by itself! ;)
Your turn - any favourites, or classics for the collection (fiction too)??

Good review of a variety of books. The Da Vinci ones looks a really interesting read in particular!
Great, let me know if you read it! He certainly achieved a fair bit in a variety of areas so we could all learn a lot, and the author has done a good job of summing up the various aspects and how to apply them…
Brilliant. I'v got a few on my link but I will add this one. Homo Deus i still need to finish which is a really food good depicting the human evolution
Sounds good, I'll add Homo Deus to the list. Have you read Sapiens? I haven't as yet but it's the same subject area. Actually, I just checked and they're by the same author!
Yeah so Homo Deus is in the future sorry homo sapiens is untill modern day. I've half finished Sapiens need to read Deus
I read The End of Jobs. It is quite provocative and very interesting. Also, I think crypto will have a part to play in this change of scenario.
Thank you for sharing!
It will indeed. To what extent, we'll have to wait and see!
