For motorway interventions and road safety measures, the Austrian police now have a Porsche 911 intervention.

Just before the summer holidays, the Austrian police are equipped with a new motorway intervention tool: a Porsche 911. Rotating beacon, radio, "Polizei" inscriptions on the hood and the doors, the 911 gray does not go unnoticed . And it will change the daily life of the police who usually run in other models of the Volkswagen group: VW Touran or Skoda Octavia.

The Austrian forces had already rolled a long time ago in 911, as pointed out by Porsche with a picture of this Targa of the Sixties, a car of the federal gendarmerie. Porsche also takes advantage of the delivery to recall its partnership with the Austrian police tied in 2006.

"The Porsche 911 has long been a model of iconic sports cars, which proves to be very practical on a daily basis, especially when it comes to safety and comfort over long distances, two crucial themes when patrolling on motorways "Said Porsche Austria manager Helmut Eggert, as he promised for his sports car.
This 911 will be used until October for motorway operations. At the reception of the coupé on 23 June, the police exposed her at a sports car rally near Lake Wörthersee, a mythical place of car preparation.

The Austrian police is not the only one to equip itself with a sports car, as a model of intervention, but also (and above all) prevention, from the Ford Mustang of the German police to the supercars of the police Of Dubai. Will the French gendarmerie revive history with an Alpine service?

When the gendarmes rolled in Alpine

Moment nostalgia for the national gendarmerie, in full salon Retromobile. The military publish on their official Facebook page a photo album of their most beautiful models of intervention, such as the Alpine.

Today, the one we tremble to see arrive in its rearview mirror is called the Renault Mégane RS. But the national gendarmerie plays the map of nostalgia in the Salon Retromobile (February 8 to 12, Porte de Versailles, Paris).

It publishes on its official Facebook page a photo of an Alpine A310 rapid intervention, ambushing on the edge of a motorway, with on the flank a badge 'Gendarmerie' (see above). It's even a photo album that highlights the most striking models of his garage.

The Alpine and the gendarmerie, 20 years of history

Back in a few weeks in its 21st century version, the Alpine is certainly the one that has most marked the motorway history of the national gendarmerie. Since February 1967, and the opening of the first rapid intervention brigades, the Alpine A110 is indeed the best ally of the gendarmes, thanks to its ranking in the World Rally Championship. She was thus crowned world champion in 1973.

The French sportsman marks the arrival in the ranks of the forces of the order of powerful models, capable of tracking on motorways, whereas before, the road vehicles of intervention, Juva 4 to 4L (practices because the gendarmes Could keep their kepi while driving) were mainly service cars. With the Alpine A110, the gendarmes exchanged the kepi for the helmet and received for the first time training as a racing driver.

Alpine A310 and Citroën SM

But the Alpine A110 was not the only blue car of the gendarmerie. The police also used an A310. The latter arrived on the roads in 1973, at the same time as the speed limits. As mentioned in the documentary Catch up with me if you can, this model equipped with a V6 of 160 horses is part of the increase of means given to the gendarmerie in the beginning of the Seventies. 1973 records indeed the sad record of 12.000 dead On French roads. It will officiate until 1987, with a top speed of 226 km / h.

Citroën Cx Turbo, then Renault 21 Turbo will succeed the mythical A310, until the Subaru Impreza, in the 90s. But the other great star of the gendarmerie is undoubtedly the Citroen SM. Launched in the early 1970s, on a DS basis, this large sedan also becomes a vehicle for rapid intervention, thanks to its 170-horsepower V6. The characteristic of this large Citroen is that it was developed in collaboration with Maserati.

Thank you for keeping me updated about what is going on in my own country :D I really didn´t take notice of that and was very suprised by that title.

It's normal to be topical

Driving in porsche at high speeds surely requires a proper training, what a pleasure to be a police officer in Austria, getting up in the morning knowing that later I would be in Porsche ... I live in Brussels (Capital of l ' Europe) and 3/4 of the police cars drive to diesel.
Very good post, thank you.
