Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, and Film & TV - What will this mean for filmmakers and the like?

Are you an actor? Are you a writer, producer, costume designer, makeup artist or anything in between? More importantly are you fulfilling any of these roles while spending the majority of your time waiting for permission to create your own content? As an actor I know I sure am. The blockchain cryptocurrency movement, I believe with an unwavering sense of conviction will be the spur needed to kick content creation into its next major paradigm shift.

Resources for film as a form of art making are hoarded, as is the case with so much in this world - limiting young film makers, actors, etc, from fully exercising their creative potential. As we watch the aforementioned movement gather momentum, earning more and more support from all over the world, it becomes far more realistic to consider an alt coin(s) dedicated to driving content creation to a more widely celebrated/funded platform. I have been to over a hundred auditions in the last few years - the majority of them passing out scripts littered with spelling errors, lacking in any sort of compelling narrative, and in most cases just down right atrocious story telling. Yet there is no lack of funding for this garbage. This is of course because its traveled down the same white washed, misogynistic, mediocrity celebrating poop-shoot since time immemorial. Not for much longer though with initiatives such as "Ethereum Movie Venture" (EMV) stepping into the picture; albeit, I peeped the first project for their ICO and it seems a little, well... not so good. What I am drawn to though is the concept. EMV plans to produce one feature film a year gathering funds through their respective coinage.

For me, film, television and the stage are all wonderful mediums for affecting change by driving compelling content that allows an audience to consider their own little hermetically sealed bubbles; however, as the resources needed to create content such as this are sealed away for the same money hungry film execs, pumping out the same hogwash narrative I watched last week, aspiring film makers are left shooting what could be a brilliant piece of art on a Sony handy cam that captured the Christmas's of their youth back in 1995. What is even more compelling than this is the fact that these are opportunities that will be available to the entire creative community at large. I'm talking a global arts collective that is unmatched, as we know it now. This movement has the ability to connect people in a way that makes the Internet as it currently operates on the scale of letter carrier pigeon status! Together we will determine the value of art, not through a single opinion, nor a currency lacking in any kind of specificity, but the support of people who are choosing to lend their time, attention, and funds to endorse art making in the most authentic way possible.

To the visual artists, musicians, filmmakers and all beings creative around the world, this is a very exciting time for us. Projects like Steemit and Ethereum Movie Venture are just a few to name. What I really encourage is to watch out for start-ups of this sort that align with your own artistic compass. I have no doubt there will be ICO's looking to earn a budget for more garbage, looking to propagate the big money bank centric movie funding mentality that is currently failing us now.
