IGLOO WITH ME: HOW DOES IT END?---2 SBD to the winner!
Join me in my igloo making!
~ ~ FIRST ATTEMPT ~ ~
We had a massive snow day, so I took the kids sledding. They enjoyed the hill....

....while I brought my trusty snow-brick makers and started on a little igloo home under a bush, perfect for a jack rabbit family.

The foundation, as it were.

Enlisting help from the troops

We got to level 5 in the brick-stacking, and had started to turn the top in toward an arch, and it toppled down.
~ ~ SECOND ATTEMPT ~ ~

We tried to do a patch job.....

But we couldn't quite get the edges to arc without caving in. And we were getting tired and hungry. So we went home. But I still had igloo fever, so....
THIRD ATTEMPT

...I got some lunch, had a little break, then went back at it again in my own back yard. This looks like a good spot to make camp.
Again, enlisting the troops!

Starting to make a little sense, I think...

Just stopping to take a look at the beautiful view.

Needing some patchwork to glue some of the edges together and reinforce the curving shape

I finally realized that if I was going to make a proper arch, I would need pressure from all sides, or I'd have an instant replay of attempt #1. So I decided to make a full circle and build up equally all around, and then cut out a door later.
2.5 hours in, my toes are getting cold, fingers are getting tired, back is getting sore, and I'm hungry. I need to make dinner. It's creeping up on 6pm, the snow is getting a little too crispy to work with. So what happens next???
~ ~ THE CONTEST ~ ~
Did I finish the igloo really quick and then run into the house to make dinner? Did I call it a day and finish the igloo the next morning? Did the sun melt it before I could get to it the following morning? Did we have another snow fall? Did the igloo crash to it's doom? Did I give up altogether because I was sick of igloo-ing? Or something else entirely altogether? Or a combination of answers?
What do YOU think happened???

From the looks of those clouds, it probably snowed some more. Since you were able to get further this time, most likely you went back out for an hour or so and finished. The rabbits would have needed a shelter from that incoming snow storm. :-)
Very close...go here to find out what happened!
of course you did :)
First of all, what a lovely place you live, amazing view, and with the iglooing I think you just gave up after the igloo crash down for the second time so you ended up the day like that and tried to finish it up next day but you had another snowfall with a massive sun that melt the snow and then it was easy so you ended up doing it. lol am I right?
Congratulations! You win the igloo challenge. Not only were you the closest, but you guessed almost exactly what happened. I called it quits for the night and went back at it the next day. There had been a huge snowfall that night, and lots of sun by mid morning and noon. So the snow got nice and heavy and sticky to work with. It was a perfect dream! That igloo patched up very quickly and we were done in no time flat!
You will receive $2 SBD for your guess. Go here to see the final results of the igloo!
Yeees!!! I knew something weird probably happened, lol. I just saw the pics on the other post, it ended up being a great igloo, btw your kids look really cute on the inside. Anyway can't believe I won :) thanks darling.
P.S: I loooove where you live, so beautiful.
I do too. We have mountains in the near distance, and a long stretch of sagebrush and desert grass for a few miles. I love the skies, and the almost barren but fragile beauty of the brush and the soil and the simple colors and beauties. It's not green and lush, so it's an acquired taste I think, but I love it.
I think maybe you used the sled as a brace and finished the top while using the sled to keep it from toppling in on itself. That's what I would have tried at least, lol.
This would have been a really good idea! Why didn't I think of that??? If you want to know what happened, click here
lol
My guess is that you got the full dome built and then you needed to make the door. So the kids just shouted "Hey Kool aid Man!"

Presto. Instant door.
That's EXACTLY right! You win.....a glass of cool-aid!
This was awesome. Thanks for the throwback. If you want to see what happened with the igloo, click here
Wow, this place looks amazing! Also, it looks like you were having a lot of fun. Where I live it doesn't snow, so I'm not exactly sure how to build an igloo. However, seeing your progress here, I think the last one is more steady and strong. You don't look like a quitter so I'm guessing you kept trying to build the igloo and it was coming out great, but when you tried to make the door, it fall down :(
It was a lot of fun. I was lucky to have such a great snowfall, and have the day off work to enjoy it with my kids!
