Now you can read in summary the answer to the most common questions:

The family has a bad time

I have to admit that who has the worst is the relatives who live with one, in this case my wife, who tried by active and passive to go to the doctor to send me a treatment, but even that was a decision that was made to me impossible to take.

I remember that one day my wife convinced me and accompanied me to visit the family doctor, but while I was waiting for my shift, I despaired and left. When I got home, my wife gave me a choice between going to the doctor or leaving home. Finally, faced with the situation of being between the sword and the wall, I went to a specialist.

THE EXPERIENCE OF GOING TO THE DOCTOR

Of so many movies I had seen in which the psychiatrist listened to his patient, while the latter spoke rumbling on the couch, because I thought that this would be my experience with the specialist. Well no, not further from reality. I entered the office, the psychiatrist invited me to sit down and told me, "Tell me what's wrong", he listened to me for 5 minutes, then I think he listened to me, looked around and finally sent me a quickie with the prescription of some pills , an antidepressant. What a disappointment!

To "past bull" I think it is advisable to go to the doctor for a diagnosis as soon as possible, as soon as you feel the symptoms described above (try to be realistic and not dramatize). Of course, while you wait to visit the doctor, do your best to continue and do not stop doing daily activities, as there are people who at the least symptom leave everything and then go to the doctor.

THAT HELPED ME In the previous story I have not mentioned several very important points, in the long run, for me to come out of that situation. Points these, that only with the passage of the years I have been able to realize the importance that they had for my recovery. I detail them now, so they can help: The moment of inflection, when I began the path of recovery was the moment when my wife threw me the ultimatum. It is known that our brain reacts in a special way when it perceives a situation "that understands" of danger, in particular it is the amygdala, located in the pre-frontal cortex, responsible for activating that state in our brain. And I think that ultimatum produced a different reaction in me, moving me to visit the doctor. So, as a moral at this point I would say that, it is very important that you do not isolate yourself, but let yourself be accompanied by someone who loves you and helps you to get out of that state. Being realistic, I have to admit that from the doctor I did not receive any psychological help that I detected at that moment, nor could I vent on the couch, nor had a couch! However, it is also true that these antidepressants prescribed to me produced a significant decrease in the level of anxiety, allowing me, therefore, a certain degree of constructive reflection. So, as a general advice, I believe that in a situation with symptoms of depression it is a priority that you turn to the specialist on duty to make a diagnosis and help you in the way that it seems most convenient. Along with the attitude of my wife, the other key point for my recovery was related to something mental, values. I will explain you now. From my parents I learned as a child to be a responsible person with what I do and with others, and it was precisely this attitude that prevented me, during those moments, from leaving my job and, although every morning it was an ordeal to get going going to work, however, once I left home, there was no going back, because going to work was part of my responsibility and so I felt it deep down, above my depressed state. Only once did I feel so bad, that I left for my house before my work shift ended. At this point I want to tell you that you attach great importance to the values and moral principles that you have established in you, because they will be the only reason and answer that will be worth you in those moments. While I was at work, I did not discuss with my colleagues the treatment or the situation I was going through, but on one occasion I did it with one of them, who coincidentally had also suffered a similar illness. It is not that his story helped me, but rather that I shared it with someone from that environment, that I felt understood, emotional oxygen! So, my advice is to share what happens to someone you trust, whether at work or at home, that can help you. ![]()
