My phone have hardware pedometer.I hope in the upcoming new andriod version,the app can read the data directly so that I don't need to keep screen on while walking and SAVE the battery.

You do not need to keep screen on, just make sure to turn on "aggressive mode setting" and the app should be able to track your activity.
