A Quick Guide to Breueh Island

Pulo Aceh is the only sub district in Aceh Besar district, Aceh province, which has an archipelago territory. Pulo Aceh District has 10 islands, but only 3 islands are inhabited. Namely Rice Island, Breueh Island, and Teunom Island (Keureusek). The largest island, Breueh Island, consists of 2 mukim, Mukim Pulau Breueh Selatan and Mukim North Breueh Island, which is further divided into 12 villages. The capital of Pulo Aceh sub-district is located in Lampuyang, a village belonging to the mukim of South Breueh Island.
As an archipelago, the main livelihood of its inhabitants is fishermen. Various types of seafood such as squid, octopus, tuna, tuna and lobster are some of the main products of Breueh Island, mostly traded in Banda Aceh. Apart from the sea, agriculture and plantation also become the livelihood of the people of Breueh Island. Breueh Island has a hilly natural topography with a very heavily forested forest in the middle of the island and many sloping beaches with white sand on the outside. Beautiful natural conditions and still not much touched human hands make Breueh Island has a huge tourism potential.
During the 2004 tsunami, Breueh Island was one of the most severely damaged islands. Now, residential buildings resulting from rehabilitation and reconstruction after the tsunami looks uniformly standing in the area of ​​Breueh Island. The facilities and infrastructure at Breueh Island are still far from adequate. However, in September 2012, when I first visited there, has begun to appear a significant change. Electricity that used to live only at 18.00 - 24.00 now can be enjoyed by citizens Breueh Island for 24 hours. That's because PT. PLN has made Diesel Power Plant in Gugop Village. Roads that used to be only a very dangerous rocky soil passed by motor vehicles when the rainy day has now been paved smoothly in some parts. Some parts of the path connecting other Gugop and Meulingge villages are still in the asphalting stage.
