I was with friends from Banda Aceh, travel to Tungkop village, District Indra Jaya, Pidie, Aceh, Sumatra, the travel distance of approximately 110 kilometers or a three hour drive.We intend to look into this village and took some photos at the location where the making of Kupiah Meukeutop.
This is a village, maker of Kupiah Meukeutop, located approximately 7 kilometers from the town of Sigli. My understanding, these villagers who still maintain the tradition of the art of making Kupiah Meukeutop. Expertise art knitting Kupiah Meukeutop passed down from generation to generation.
Then, garnish gold crowns (some are replacing them with brass), installed by shops selling souvenirs. Villagers Tungkop, just make knitted from pieces of cloth, sewn by the color composition to form a motif, to form a caps.
Another name of Kupiah meukeutop
Some call this caps with a Kupiah Tungkop, referring to the name of maker village. Some people call this cap with Kopiah Teuku Umar, referring to one of the heroes of Aceh, he was killed in battle while fighting with the Dutch East Indies troops in Meulaboh, on February 11, 1899. Teuku Umar is identical to Kupiah Meukeutop, maybe he always wear it. Kupiah Meukeutop most commonly known as Kupiah Aceh (Aceh caps).

I'm wearing Kupiah Meukeutop, has been modified into a shorter size for everyday, use without using garnish crown.
