Preamble
Do not forget history. That was the message of Tengku Hasan Tiro when he returned to Aceh in October 2008. Much earlier, a similar message also echoed in the cold of winter in Stockholm, also in the blazing sun at the Tajura military training camp, Tripoli, Libya. In both places, Hasan had spent part of his age.
For Hasan Tiro, history is the legacy of a predecessor that must be studied and practiced. No wonder, the glorious Aceh of the past also penetrated him so that pioneered a liberation movement.
"Our history is like a bank book. From there we know how much the price of the heritage left by our ancestors, "he said when membahani a number of young people of Aceh in Libya in a session called Education Aceh.
For Aceh, Hasan Tiro is history itself. It passes through, even creating the stages of Aceh's history post Indonesian independence: from the time of President Soekarno to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The pioneering liberation movement had a major impact on Aceh. Raising the spirit of resistance at a young age, he decided to reconcile in old age. In the span of 30 years of struggle, he traveled the world with the flag of liberation of Aceh. Until at one time, the eyes of the world was fixed to Aceh.
As a result, Aceh now enjoys a period of considerable delegation of authority to govern itself through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Helsinki in 2005. From this agreement was born Aceh Law Act which agreed on the distribution of oil and gas 70: 30 percent for Aceh.
Indeed, as written in the Price of Freedom, one of his greatest books, there is always a price to pay for achieving a goal. The determined man sacrificed himself and his family to form what he called Acehnese nationalism. In fact, when he breathed his last breath in Zainoel Abidin Hospital of Banda Aceh, he went in silence: without his wife and only child Karim Tiro. Almost on every occasion, he instilled a deep sense of love for Aceh through the histories of past struggles. From there, he introduced the identity of Aceh
Cornelis Van Dijk, a historian from Rotterdam, the Netherlands calls Hasan Tiro a highly intelligent, well-educated person, endowed with a rare combination of the common people, charm and determination (Burham: 1961).
Hasan Tiro is a contemporary Acehnese hero. Emerging from the family of the fighters Teungku Chik in Tiro Muhammad Saman, Hasan is in high education to the United States, economically well-off and has extensive relationships abroad.
Commemorating Hasan Tiro's birthday, we decided to raise the story of the life story of the founder of the Free Aceh Movement. However, of course we do not want to just repeat stories that have been featured in many media.
That's why we dig another side of a Grand Master who has sacrificed more than half his age to introduce Aceh like a donee's eye. We collect fragments from the life of the spirit sower. Starting from how he passes his days, to the light stories of the people around him. In other words, we want to write the human side of a man named Hasan Tiro.
Hasan Tiro did not inherit abundant wealth, but he left valuable lessons about the meaning of self-esteem and marwah an area called Aceh.

Grand Master and Rencong
Recording the way 'Wali Nanggroe' galvanize the people around him. Only a child is able to muffle his temper. This is the human side of Hasan Tiro.
Early morning Muzakir Abdul Hamid was neat. That day the special staff of 'Wali Nanggroe' Hasan Tiro was given an important task: to pick up Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, former Chairman of the Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR). Rushing Muzakir drove to a hotel 15 kilometers from his home.
Arriving there, Kuntoro is waiting. He was accompanied by BRR Secretary Teuku Kamaruzzaman and Deputy Finance Amin Surbekti. Wasted no time, they immediately moved to Alby Apartment Block 11 Norsborg, Stockholm, Sweden. This is where Hasan Tiro settled for over twenty years. In addition to Wali Nanggroe, there has been waiting for Meuntroe Malek and dr. Zaini Abdullah.
That day, mid-May 2007, Kuntoro came to Sweden on a trip to Europe to meet some donor leaders who contributed to Aceh post-tsunami aid. Apparently, on the sidelines of his visit, the man who now serves as Head of Presidential Work Unit for Development Supervision and Control feels the need to visit Wali Nanggroe.
Initially, Kuntoro had doubted whether Tengku Hasan might be willing to accept him. Moreover, the Wali is known to have never been willing to accept government representatives to meet him. His concerns grew as he was a genuine Javanese. However, the concern was not proven. He was warmly welcomed.
The meeting did not just happen. Before leaving, Kuntoro meets Malik Mahmud. The meeting was also designed. In front of Kuntoro, Malik called Hasan Tiro. From the other side, Hasan Tiro agrees to meet. "Please go there Mr. Kun, please go there," Malik said as written in BRR report book entitled: "Story: Feat of the Daunting Launch."
Accompanied by a cup of hot milk coffee and a typical Swedish coca cake, they dissolve in a warm chat. As to every other guest who comes, Wali tells the story of the history of Aceh struggle. The conversation took place in English. Kuntoro then deployed a map of Aceh that was deliberately prepared since departing from Banda Aceh. In Story: Feat of the Daunting Launch, Kuntoro describes the meeting enthusiastically.
"What's this ?," Hasan Tiro asked, pointing to a different colored area on the map.
"It was an area hit by the tsunami disaster. We are building houses and roads in this damaged area, "Kuntoro replied.
"If this is what ?," Wali asked pointing to a location that was given another color.
"It's a map of Aceh's mining and natural resources. Map I and Map II are about mining. Map III on population growth and distribution. One more map of the infrastructure we are building, "Kuntoro replied.
"Good, very good. Aceh should be built better, without destroying natural resources, "the Guardian's message.
Nothing, an hour passed. The meeting ended. Kuntoro farewell while not forget to leave a message for guardian to maintain health.
What made Kuntoro gasp, he did not believe it when the Guardian drove him to the front of the escalator while waving his arms. When Kuntoro disappears from sight, then Hasan Tiro returns to his room.
Indeed, it was a secret meeting. The meeting was agreed without a shooting session and no talk to the mass media. When asked a number of reporters in Banda Aceh back from Sweden, Kuntoro kept the meeting secret. At the end of his post as Chairman of BRR, the story was included in a section of BRR's report book.
However, Kuntoro apparently could not resist telling the historic meeting to some of his staff. "Regardless of his political beliefs, I am very respectful to Hasan Tiro. He is a firm and consistent person who strives for what he believes to be a truth, "Kuntoro said in Banda Aceh to a number of staff at BRR, on his return from Sweden.

It was written on a piece of banners on a simple stage in the Tung Hero National Teungku Chik Tomb complex in the village of Meureue, Indrapuri district of Aceh Besar. Located on the left side of the stage, Tengku Hasan Tiro is buried side by side with Teungku Chik di Tiro, a cleric and Acehnese struggle leader who is given the title of national hero by the government.

There were Wali Nanggroe Mahik, former GAM foreign minister dr. Zaini Abdullah, former Mentroe Prang Zakaria Saman and former GAM Army Commander Muzakir Manaf.
Located about five kilometers from the Medan-Banda Aceh highway, the tomb was filled with visitors coming from different parts of Aceh. The line of vehicles extends up to one kilometer from the tomb.

Not to forget Muzakir alludes to the latest political conditions that he said the more heated the day. In fact, said Muzakir, in 2005, Wali Nanggroe has left a peace agreement with the Indonesian government as the only concept to advance Aceh in the future.

After Muzakir stepped on stage, dr.Zaini Abdullah's turn conveyed his memories with the deceased. The man who is familiarly called Doto Zaini is arguably always with Hasan Tiro in every stage of the movement: since declaring independence movement in Mount Halimun in 1976, settled in Sweden, until his death in Banda Aceh last year.

Teungku Malik Mahmud who appeared later twisted his memories into the past tens of years, precisely in 1964. His relationship with Hasan Tiro began by correspondence. His father, who at that time acted as a liaison between Aceh fighters in Singapore, often conducted correspondence with Hasan Tiro who settled in the United States.
One day, Hasan Tiro landed in Singapore. The Malik family invited him to lunch at home. Arriving there at around 11:00 noon, Hasan Tiro immediately seated. Instead of sitting directly, Tengku Hasan even asked his sister and mother. When told they were preparing the dishes in the kitchen, Teungku Hasan went straight to him. After shaking hands, there was a dialogue like this.
"What's cooking, really fragrant aroma," asked Tengku Hasan.
"Chicken curry with bamboo shoots, Aceh Rayeuk cuisine," said Mother.
Tengku Hasan immediately opened the beulangong cover (wok). The aroma of bamboo shoots filled the room.
"It's been a long time since I missed this cooking," Hasan Tiro said with a radiant face.
The meeting was apparently so imprinted in the minds of Mentroe Malek, to arrive at the conclusion Hasan Tiro is a smart thinker, understated and clever mingle with ordinary people. Vice versa, Mentroe Malik also get a special place in the heart of Wali Nanggroe.
Admiration Mentroe Malik increasingly after joining Hasan in the movement. Malik often witnessed how Hasan Tiro introduced Aceh to other nations in Europe, the United States, the Middle East to Africa. To Mentroe Malek, Tengku Hasan always reminded that Aceh is a great nation since the first.
