Domestic Violence: a voice against a vice
This poem is dedicated to everyone that has been physically and emotionally battered by domestic violence. Indeed, it is not only the woman that suffer from domestic violence, the children do as well. Read enjoy and learn.
His eyes opened suddenly
the sudden pant in his heart couldn't be ignored
he heard his mother's voice again
cries of an abused woman
echoed ceaselessly
he woke with tears in his eyes
the night is not young
it would be a peaceful night
he thought when he slept at nine
just nine he could feel his heart sob along with his mother's
he was gripped with grief
an oversize burden for a child just nine
when the day was young
his mother was the sun that lit his world
she was the star that twinkle in his eyes
she was his angel
but tonight he couldn't help her
when the day was young
her beauty sparkles like diamonds in light
her only dream was to be happy
but not tonight
his father had just smashed her dreams with a hard but thoughtless fist
as she cried on her bed
under the blows of an abusive beast
she felt no pain
but her heart breaks
for she knew her son wept
if only she could hold him now
she would wipe the tears from his crying heart
she would tell him not all men are beasts
she would tell him to dream
dream of being a better man
a man that won't hit a weak vessel
with a thoughtless fist
