Bachei: a lovely predator
No villagers in Aceh, especially those living near rivers and swamps, like me, who did not familiar with this fish. Commonly, the villagers just love this fish meat. We call it: Bachei. Any way to cook the fish, whether it is fried, cooked with coconut milk or curry etc., for me it will be very tasty. Actually, I have a long story about the fish which in English is called: Snakehead murrel (Channa striata). But, well, I have to delay the story when I get my own catches. Snakehead Murrel, as you can see, it is the catches of my brother-in-law, and the fish was a native of Aceh river.
The fish that are predators of other small fish. But its presence is preferred. It can reduce rice pests such as slugs. And in terms of health, experts say that the fish was very rich of albumin,one kind of important proteins. Albumin is a protein that the human body needs every day, especially in the process of healing the wounds. But, regardless of its health benefits, the obviously, we love this fish. And this is the pictures of the fish, native of Aceh river, and greetings to the World from Aceh.
