UMAR NOW AGE 25 YEARS. Three years have passed. There was no more war. However, nine bullets still lodged in his body: the back, chest, armpits to the tip of his finger. "Get nerves, can not be in operation. If the operation can be paralyzed, "said Umar. Occasionally, the pain appears suddenly.
In his village, Idi Rayeuk, East Aceh, he is no longer carrying weapons. Now he was busy keeping a hundred ducks in the front yard of his boarding house. Umar was well-built, crafty crew-style soldiers. His tone was firm. Umar was the only living witness-from GAM-who was directly involved in a two-hour battle in Alue Nireh, East Aceh, 8 September 2004. Yes, the final battle that killed GAM's East Aceh Regional Commander Ishak Daud.
For three years, Ishak Daud death left a mystery. No one knows exactly the details of the incident. GAM's own party only issued a press release on 12 September 2004, four days after the incident. In fact, GAM only mentioned Ishak Daud was killed along with eight other GAM personnel. The rest is a mystery. The three-year event still keeps the puzzle.

"I, as a GAM person, never know how it happened," said a GAM member who is now working at the Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency. Previously, Umar himself prefer silence. But, when met ACEHKINI, he opened the voice.

Umar never forgot the incident: the seconds when his life was at stake. He often remembers the final battle with a sliced heart. The battle began when five of Ishak Daud's men were on their way to Tualang. They are Ishak Daud, his wife Cut Rostina, Umar, Raider, and Abu Bakar. That day, the plan, they want to go to Tapaktuan because Ishak Daud was transferred there.
"We want to walk by sea to Jeunieb, then cross to Tapaktuan," recalled Umar.
That ill-fated day, September 8, 2004, Ishak Daud and his wife and three bodyguards were praying for a prayer dhuhur on the edge not far from their emergency camp. At that time, he only wore a t-shirt and jeans.
The river is in the valley, surrounded by hills. Suddenly, from the top of the hill came a gun bark. Ishak Daud who was on the edge of the river was aghast. Apparently, its existence has been snuffed by TNI troops.
Umar who is not far from Ishak Daud immediately lie down while releasing a reply. "Abu Chik, we must retreat," said Umar. Abu Chik is a call of honor by GAM troops to Ishak Daud.
"No, it's time we fought all out. This is the determination of life and death, "Ishak snapped between the bullets whistling as he took the offensive position.
Cut Rostina the pregnant wife, also did not want to run. "Life and death with my husband," he told Umar. That day is the fifth day Cut Rostina gathered with her husband.
Tret ... tret ... .. a series of shots kept pounding. They are looking for a fortress of refuge. Fortunately, not far from them is a palm tree. There, they took cover while firing back.
Umar tried to pull Cut Rostina to shelter behind a palm tree following Ishak. At that moment, a bullet tore his arm. He was thrown backward for two meters.
"I'm exposed," shouted Umar spontaneously.
He had time to see the shooter not far from him. As he opened fire reply, he had asked Ishak Daud backwards. But, again the offer was rebuffed.
"No, we're a war today," Ishak said.
Like a scene in the action movie, they fought in protective positions: one in front, one behind. Umar took the position in front. While Ishak and his wife were behind. With a bloody body, Umar stood in the open, firing a shot at the soldiers .
Umar exclaimed, "Neupleung droe neuh, bah lon dong (run it first, let me face it)."
Umar kept pushing forward while firing a shot. but unlucky, a bullet again traced behind his body.
"Abu Chik ..., I am again exposed," shouted Umar.
Hearing the cry, Ishak Daud peered out from behind the palm tree. At that moment, a bullet pierced his forehead.
Ishak fell down on his stomach. Fresh blood came out of his nose. Right then, the angel of death picks up. Umar then undid Ishak's shirt and pants. The only remaining panties. Before he pulled away, he covered him with a black cloth. He also carried Isaac's weapons and notebooks. "I opened his shirt so the soldiers did not recognize him," recalled Umar.
At 14.30 the war subsided. Cut Rostina told Umar to save himself, while he remained there, mourning the body of his husband. Umar did not know the fate of Ishak Daud's wife, until finally the newspaper reported that Rostina was also killed in the battle. "When we split up Mama (Rostina) is still alive. The possibility he was tortured, "said Umar.
In the condition of nine bullets lodged in his body, Umar crawls for cover. He had fainted. When realized, it turns out he was in a pigsty, 50 meters from the location of the battle. three days later Aceh fumed after news of Ishak's death appeared in the local media. Apparently, the soldiers recognized him. Only, his body was filled with gunshot wounds. "It looks like he was shot again after death," Umar thought. Raider and Abu Bakr, two other Ishak guards, were also killed.
BORN IN IDI RAYEUK, EAST ACEH, 1960, Ishak was arrested by TNI for attacking ABRI Masuk Desa (AMD) post and seized 21 weapons of TNI in March 1990 in Buloh Blang Ara, North Aceh. At that time two Indonesian soldiers and two boys near the post were killed.
Shortly detained, Ishak fled to Malaysia. In March 1996 he was arrested in a joint intelligence operation between Indonesia and Malaysia. Ishak was then handed over by the Malaysian police to the Bengkalis Resort Police, Riau. From Riau brought to Polda Aceh.
After being detained for more than two years, a new Ishak trial was held. The man who did not graduate from elementary school was then charged with a life sentence-even though in December 1998 he was sentenced to 20 years in prison
A year in jail, Ishak Daud along with 30 political prisoners from Aceh received amnesty from President B.J. Habibie. Detained at Siborongborong Prison, North Tapanuli, Ishak was then released. He returned to his home, took up arms against Jakarta
FOR UMAR, ISHAK IS A ROLE. It took two years to be Ishak Daud's bodyguard. Where Ishak was, there was Umar. The man who claimed only a high school to elementary school, joined GAM in 1999. At that time he was 17 years old.
Umar keeps a special memory of Ishak Daud. For him Ishak is like his own parents. One advice Ishak always remembers: "Si droe tanyoe, beuna manfaat keu ureung ramee."
Until now, Umar is still difficult to accept Ishak's death. Not infrequently, he visited the grave of Ishak Daud just remembering their togetherness "I can not take care of the person who has been guiding me," Umar said sadly.
He himself never thought he could still live with the condition of nine bullets lodged in his body. "It is still touched the bullet," he said as he showed scars on his body, back and fingertips. Behind his skin, bullets are still nesting.
After the battle, Umar had two months to escape to Medan. From there, he continued his escape to Riau. Six months there, he got treatment. But, it cost na'udzubillah, reached Rp 2 million once treatment. In uncertain conditions, through a liaison, Umar went to Malaysia. There, through the assistance of UNHCR, the UN agency that handles refugee affairs , he is undergoing intensive treatment.
Luckily, although bullets still lodged in his body, Umar's life was saved. Five months after peace, he returned to Aceh. When the peace agreement was signed he was still lying in the hospital.
