About the life / pattern of life in Aceh
Pola kehidupan masyarakat Aceh sejak zaman dahulu sudah diatur berdasarkan kaedah-kaedah hukum agama Islam. Pola kehidupan masyarakat Aceh di zaman dahulu dibagi dalam beberapa tingkat atau strata. Meskipun terbagi dalam strata-strata tidak berarti ada pemilahan pandangan hidup di antara strata tersebut. Rakyat Aceh menyebut strata itu dengan golongan. Adapaun golongan yang dimaksud adalah, golongan rakyat biasa, hartawan, ulama/ cendikiawan, dan kaum bangsawan.
Golongan Rakyat Biasa
Golongan ini dalam masyarakat Aceh disebut dengan ureung lé (orang banyak). Dikatakan demikian karena golongan ini merupakan golongan paling banyak dalam masyarakat adat Aceh.
Golongan Hartawan
Golongan ini merupakan golongan yang senang bekerja keras untuk meningkatkan pengembangan ekonomi pribadi. Dari pribadi-pribadi yang sudah memiliki harta itu dibentuklah suatu golongan yang disebut dengan golongan hartawan. Golongan ini cukup berperan dalam soal-soal kemasyarakat, terutama dalam hal menyumbang.
Golongan Ulama atau Cendikiawan
Golongan ini umumnya berasal dari rakyat biasa, tetapi mereka memiliki ilmu pengetahuan yang cukup menonjol. Dalam masyarakat Aceh golongan ini disebut juga sebagai orang alim. Orang-orang di golongan ini dalam kehidupan masyarakat Aceh dipanggil dengan gelar Teungku. Akan tetapi sapaan Teungku zaman sekarang ini sudah melebar menjadi sapaan hormat ke semua lelaki dewasa. Golongan ulama ini sangat berperan dalam masalah-masalah agama dan kemasyarakatan.
Golongan Bangsawan
Golongan bangsawan adalah golongan kerajaan. Zaman sekarang golongan bangsawan dapat dilihat dari garis keturunan Sultan Aceh. Dalam golongan ini dari garis keturunan perempuan disebut Cut dan garis keturunan lelaki disebut Teuku. Panggilan untuk teuku ini sering disebut dengan ampon.
Selain pembagian golongan di atas, sistem kemasyarakatan rakyat Aceh merupakan perwujudan dari beberapa keluarga inti. Keluarga inti yang dimaksud adalah kelompok masyarakat yang mendiami sebuah daerah yang disebut gampoeng. Sistem sosial masyarakat Aceh berpedoman pada keluarga inti tersebut. Dalam setiap keluarga inti atau gampoeng sudah tersusun lembaga-lembaga adat yang mengacu kepada mukim. Lembaga-lembaga adat itu sangat berperan penting dalam mengatur segala hal dalam kehidupan sosial kemasyarakatan di gampoeng/ mukim tersebut.
Dalam kehidupan masyarakat Aceh ada yang namanya hukum adat, yaitu hukum yang bersendi kepada syariat Islam. Penerapan hukum adat dalam kehidupan masyarakat Aceh tidak terlepas dari sendi-sendi agama Islam. Oleh karena itu adat dan hukum tidak bisa dipisahkan seperi hadih maja, “Hukôm ngoen adat lagee zat ngoen sifeut.”

Common People

Scholars or scholars
These people are generally derived from ordinary people, but they have a fairly prominent science. In the Acehnese society this group is also called a pious person. The people in this group in the life of the Acehnese are called with Teungku. But the current Teungku greeting has widened into a respectful greeting to all the grown men. These clerics are very much involved in religious and community issues.
The elite
The nobles are the kingdoms. The current era of nobility can be seen from the lineage of the Sultan of Aceh. In this group of female lineage called Cut and male lineage called Teuku. The call to this teens is often referred to as adoption.
In addition to the above division, the Acehnese community system is the embodiment of some core families. The core family in question is a group of people who live in an area called gampoeng. The Acehnese social system is guided by the core family. In every nucleus family or gampoeng it is customary to establish customary institutions that refer to the mukim. The indigenous institutions play an important role in organizing everything in social life in the gampoeng / mukim.
In the life of the people of Aceh there is a customary law, which is a law that is related to the Islamic law. The application of customary law in the life of the Acehnese is not detached from the Islamic religion. Therefore, custom and law can not be separated like maja, "Hukôm ngoen adat lagee substance ngoen sifeut."
