Bude Trieng: Tradition Blow Up Cannon that Is Not Forbidden

in #aceh6 years ago

Beude Trieng (Acehnese language) or there is also a mention of Bude Trieng which means bamboo cannon, beude trieng (bamboo cannon) is a kind of game that relies on the sound of a bang.

Not a cannonball against an attacking enemy, nor a throwing bomb that can paralyze an opponent.

This is a game that is often played by children first, almost every time welcoming Ramadhan and also before Lebaran games like this are often loved by children in the villages.

Why in the village? indeed children are inhabited to play more freely than children in the city, especially the vast game area and not close to people's homes, unlike in the city where the density of its residents makes vacant land rarely found. However, what is happening now with the game beude trieng also often takes a lot of attention from residents in the villages.

The sound of explosions answered in response to the banks of the Krueng Pulo Baro River in Pulo Baro village in Tangse District, Wednesday night June 28, 2017.

However, the boom of sound was like a bomb blast, no one was panicking. Conversely, residents who are generally young people and children just enjoy the sound of explosions which turned out to come from bamboo cannons and carbide cannons.

Generally in Pidie, igniting bamboo and carbide cannons is indeed a tradition that is held every second night of Eid. This tradition of igniting cannons is called Teut Bude Trieng.

This tradition is highly anticipated by citizens. This can be seen from the surge of visitors coming to the banks of the river.

This annual event was indeed fascinating, especially the sound of the explosion which echoed to a radius of 10 km. In fact, because of the loud noise of the explosion, a number of residents were forced to evacuate elderly people and babies living near the location of the show.

Interestingly, this tradition is not only done by the adam, but women also helped enliven by making cakes for the carbide cannon burners.

"Activities that have become a tradition or this annual event have long been in the hands of citizens, but I do not remember exactly when it first started. Because from childhood I have seen the tradition of this carbide cannon," said Muzni, a resident of Blang Dhod Village, District Tangse to mediaaceh.co.

Meanwhile, one of the other residents, Mukhsin, said that the carbide teut beude had a chance during armed conflict in Aceh.

After the peace agreement, the enthusiasm of the people who want to burn the carbide cannon is increasing. In fact, it is not uncommon for people to contribute funds to hold the tradition.

"Generally the donors come from residents here who go home after Lebaran. Even the funds collected can reach more than Rp. 20 million," Mukhsin said.

Mukhsin added, this tradition was carried out on the first night of the feast. But because the takbir was being held around the first night, Teut Bude was shifted to the second night.

"But we will not do this tradition on Friday night, even though the second Lebaran night falls on Friday night. This tradition begins regularly after Isha prayers until the dawn," Mukhsin said.

Keep in mind, this carbide cannon has a used oil drum. Some drums are joined together to produce a 2 to 5 meter long cannon. The cannon is then filled with carbide and detonated by burning it. As a result, the sound of the explosion will boom up to a distance of 10 km.

When burned, the cannon was deliberately placed lined up along the river in a position facing each other. As a result, this sound seemed like a cannon war was going on.
