Ancient beads from the city of Sumatra

in #aceh7 years ago (edited)

In the history of the human past, beads are sometimes a necessity for a society. Physically, the beads are seen as small, round, oval or square objects that are perforated in the center for threads, ropes or other such. Beads can be made from a variety of materials ranging from shells, bones, wood, glass to stones and minerals.

The history of the beads, according to a study, has begun since 43,000 years ago. In Southeast Asia, the beads are not only used for jewelry but also as talismans, for ritual ceremonies, and markers of the wearer's status. Therefore, the beads found in the archaeological contexts can tell you about many things that prevailed in the past such as commerce, industry, social life systems, as well as things, related to festivals.

The following pictures are ancient beads found in the historical sites of Sumatra. This city is the largest trading base in Southeast Asia in the past (The 13th century to the 16th). From the name of this city the island of Sumatra takes its name.
