Accounting, Bookkeeping, Filing and Other Boring Stuff (Ulog No. 48)
It is Monday, and I have been trying really hard to be a Responsible Adult™ today.
In my world, that means mostly that I have been doing paperwork, recording all the financial bits and pieces that go with being self-employed, as well as catching up with correspondence and emails I've otherwise been putting off.

All It Takes Is... TIME
I had always hoped that there would come a day where I'd be able to afford to hire someone to deal with the endless boxes and files of invoices and receipts, but that day had been very slow in coming... and I increasingly doubt it will reveal itself before I depart this planet, for good.
I find it slightly ironic that it sometimes feels like I spend so much time documenting that I am barely scraping by that the time I spend doing so actually serves to make it harder to "scrape by."
Of course, much of that is my own doing, as I cling to the eternal hope that I'm going to turn the proverbial corner at some point and actually engage myself in an activity (for pay) that's interesting to more than seven other people on the planet.
Sun on the mountains...
Still... some progress...
Not all is lost, though... the mere fact that it is mid-December and I am actually working on this stuff marks huge progress, compared to the usual state of affairs. Half the time I end up with so much paperwork that by the time the April 15th income tax filing deadline rolls around, I am just guessing at what happened during the previous year, while filing for a six-month extension.
Of course, that may simply be an extension of surviving life costing more than we make, despite our best intentions and a lot of hard work.
It's a bit like Steem: You sit there with your 50-cent Steem and estimate that the worst you'll do is have it drop to half at 25 cents, and next thing you know it's 12 cents.
Seems like I have been part of an awful lot of business ventures that quickly moved to "a fraction of the worst case scenario." Not very impressive.
At least I can impress myself by doing the paperwork in a timely fashion.
Tall trees....
You're Just a Counter-Indicator!
Some years back, my friend Henry claimed that I was an almost perfect "market counter-indicator." What he meant by that was that if I chose to get involved in something with energy and enthusiasm, it was almost certainly doomed to fail... and if I looked at something and couldn't figure out for the life of me why anyone would be interested... then it would become a huge success.
It felt a bit hurtful when he said that... but I have since tried to find ways to somehow derive a benefit from it... although I also realize that may simply be a self-defeating exercise!
Well, pay no mind to the man behind the curtain!
Sometimes I just need to let off a little steam, and I find that writing is very cathartic, in that respect.
