RE: To Flag or not to Flag - Ramblings on Life #11

You make some very valid points.

I like the approach for voting someone up with a negative comment so it reaches the top. It still takes someone who is of rational and of a sound moral compass to respond without aggravating further.

Free speech is always a dilemma. I think there is a things that are destructive to the platform that should be stopped and there is things that are negative but aren't necessarily destructive for the platform. Each person has to ask themselves what their position is on free speech.

Sort:

I think it's not just a question which is limited to the platform but a question which concerns wider society. Ideas good and bad which generate and propagate here have the potential to be impactful outside Steemit as well.

I totally get that. The problem being, how do you determine what is right and wrong, while at the same time, advocate freedom of speech?

Society is where it is now because of a mixture of things. The current social media platform is one of them. The difference with Steemit is that people are incentivized to play by the rules, they are accountable somewhat. They ultimately put their bank on the line.

Time will tell if more communities pop up and help with the abuse on the system. I was talking to somebody the other day who was talking about the typical 'abusers' of the platform and how they can all be blacklisted and completely banned quite easily. It's just the people who need certain areas of the blockchain the most, don't have it right now.

I am not sure how blacklisting may work. They can always open new accounts, can't they? Unless there is some ID verification introduced.
