Apam is one of the special foods of the people of Aceh, especially Pidie. Apam a kind of snack that is round and made of flour, sugar, salt, and water mixed with coconut milk.

Apam is an interesting food. Because the process of making and cooking Apam cannot be any time. Apam was cooked in the month of Rajab --one month in the Hijri calendar (Islam). It deals with the tradition of welcoming the holy month of Ramadan, as a month of duplicated reward when worshiping.

To cook Apam is very unique, namely by using a container of clay and dried coconut leaves. The goal is to make the Apam become soft, crisp and the top is porous. Then, to enjoy Apam, we can eat with coconut milk that has been warmed, or eaten with grated coconut that has been mixed with salt.

Since this month (March) coincides with the month of Rajab in the Hijri calendar, then if we go to Pidie (Aceh) we will meet the people who cook the Apam. And, they will not be afraid of rewarding us Apam for free. About this, I think esteemed friends have to go to Pidie and taste the food.
