Molly's Game lets us see all the stumbles that a former Olympic athlete had to go through to try to get a space in the underworld of gambling, a dangerous territory, full of bad habits and constant problems that could drive anyone crazy. In a way this is the story of a businesswoman with a somewhat corrupted vision and who wanted to take full advantage of a very narrow line of legality that allowed clandestine gambling. The plot lets us see how Molly began in the world of betting without knowing anything, cleaning tables and serving coffee so through her cunning and vision become the most recognized organizer of clandestine betting in the United States.

In theory the plot is somewhat hypocritical because it makes us see a story of bets, drugs and vices as a story of sacrifices and business vision, but believe me it is not, in fact for me the plot is built precisely on a very fine thread of legality that was exploited to the maximum by a woman to build a certain form of betting empire. The plot is full of crude moments that reflect the absolute reality that a woman had to live to gain a space dominated by gangsters and criminals. It is really great to see how the plot develops two tempos, as we see how Molly was twice taken out of the "business" and still went ahead and managed to recover it.

The story not only takes us through the process of creating an entire anonymous empire full of famous people, but also shows us in a wonderful way the personal life of a woman who constantly left everything for her job, a woman whose personal life did not exist, for her everything was work, for her everything was the game, and that led to different collapses and addictions that ended up affecting her mood and mental health.

Molly Bloom and The Game.

This film revolves around two determining factors that stand out above everything else: Molly Bloom and The Game.

I love the way Jessica Chastain managed to give life to a sensitive woman, with addictions, fears and traumas but who nevertheless was able to own two cities through an intelligence that developed through learning and above all through observation. The film shows us a woman who only by observing and investigating on her own was able to become an expert in everything related to clandestine betting and the lines of legality that she could squeeze to get a good slice of a business that gradually entered her life to never leave again. Jessica Chastain for me does a great job transmitting the different emotions and feelings that marked the life of a woman who came very high but fell abruptly only for not wanting to submit to the rules that ambitious people wanted to impose, criminals who did not only do psychological damage but also physical, the character constantly proves to be made to cover different stages, all more difficult to explore than the previous one.

No doubt another aspect that stands out incredibly in this film is the way in which the creators managed to recreate the game, clandestine bets that were hosted by a woman who was aware of everything that happened around the betting tables, a woman who not only took care of the gaming table but also offered the same services as a casino, basically what Molly did was transport the poker tables from luxurious casinos to a totally private environment that she controlled and endorsed, she was responsible for absolutely everything and that's why she was so successful, nothing escaped from her, on the contrary whenever someone tried to defraud her she was ahead waiting for him. Through the game Molly was able to capture her sporting character, in the game was her life and she treated it as something that was worth more than her life, something that not only generated money, but with which she could make very powerful friends who ended up backing her.

Final Thoughts.

This is a movie with a story full of surprises and some complexities that are made extremely entertaining by all the atmosphere that is created around, the plot is gradually deceiving us through its development, a development marked by the incredible performance of Jessica Chastain who dominates her character to the point that we feel sorry for her even though we know that his actions in many parts are tainted by morality. The film also gives us memorable moments and final scenes full of suspense and a high emotion for the appearance of Molly's father, a man who pushed her to the maximum but in the end was there to support her in everything.

I really liked the way scriptwriters manage to combine different sensations because that gives us a wide range of thought where we can draw our conclusions, but where in the end we will realize that no matter how much we separate from family they will always be there when we need them, because yes, this is not only a film about betting and how an inexperienced woman managed to create the most exclusive clandestine betting event, but also a film that talks a lot about family unity and the dynamics behind police investigations.

In general terms, this is a great film, with few failures and where the performances and the technical montage stand out by recreating in such a precise way the clandestine bets and above all the vices and conflicts that are generated in that world.
