Movie Review #35 - Escape Plan
I've always thought that films should be judged depending on many factors that determine them, after all, it doesn't make sense to judge a simple action film in the same way as a film that competes for an Oscar or whose story is more elaborate. However, I also believe that as an expression of art every film, series or visual expression is obviously submitted to the objective opinion of the viewer. In short, I say all this because sometimes I see very elaborate films that disappoint me more than superficial action films that I recognize and give them the value for what they are, and that's precisely what I get with Escape Plan; a super simple film but one that I enjoy in the same way that I usually enjoy super complex productions with dramatic and intense stories.

The Story.
Escape Plan as I mentioned is a very entertaining action movie that puts us at the center of the life of a security expert who is dedicated to testing the effectiveness of prisons when it comes to keeping their detainees inside, basically, this man is responsible for testing the prisons to ensure that no one can escape. The plot begins when our security expert is kidnapped and placed in a clandestine prison where he doesn't know anyone and has no access to the outside world, as part of a revenge plan for one of his former employees. Basically our security expert will have to design a plan to break through prison security and escape with some of his cellmates.
See? a super simple story, but entertaining for how it unfolds, as we can see the whole process of meticulous planning that Ray Breslin will have to carry out inside the clandestine prison to escape and regain his freedom again. All the development of the plan where we see our protagonist gradually gather the things he needs to forge an escape plan is incredible because a great tension and suspense is built around the different stages of the plan. Without forgetting the fact that little by little we are discovering the different conspiracies that are behind all this kidnapping that Ray Breslin was victim of.
Generally speaking, the plot of this film does not stand out for the creativity but for the good rhythm that is created during the development of the film, a plot that keeps us always attentive to what is going to happen while we discover the peculiarities of being a super clandestine prison.

Personal Review.
I liked the film very much, after all it amused me and above all it managed to sell me very well the whole prison atmosphere with a really incredible staging where they highlight a lot of technical and creative aspects that are usually seen in a clandestine prison, and that is perhaps the highlight of the film, after all most of the film is developed in prison. All this allows the film to become an atypical action as it is not full of shots and action scenes, here most of the outstanding scenes take place when the prisoners are escaping and are unmasking all the secrets of this clandestine prison.
Another element that I liked very much is the casting selection, since incorporating Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone as a duo that works together gives a great touch to the film, as both manage to create a very enjoyable dynamic that allows us to connect with the reasons why both want to get out of prison and regain their freedom. Both get very good performances where it really seems that they were real prisoners, deliver good moments of emotion that stand out throughout this suspenseful atmosphere that was created during most of the film.
Undoubtedly a film that convinced me a lot using an escape plot that tends to develop differently, but this time taking it to a more extreme setting with more mature and rude characters that stand out along with the story and fill it with a very good background that does not stay in something superficial, ie here we have something well done, not a simple attempt to entertain, although it does very well. Finally, if you are looking for something light, where you do not have to think too much and with what you can have a good time this is an excellent option.
