King, The World's First Badminton Sports Film and Originating From Indonesia.
Badminton is one of the most prestigious sports in the world, this sport is a pride for the Indonesian people because in a few decades Indonesia was able to master various badminton events in the world to be the winner.
King is an Indonesian film released on June 25, 2009 directed by Ari Sihasale. The story of the struggle and long journey of a child named Guntur in achieving his dream of becoming a true badminton champion, such as Thunder idol and his father, Liem Swie King.
The outline of this film is the story of Liem Swie King's struggle to be a champion, but it is packaged and combined with fiction to facilitate cultivation, the inhabitants of Kampung Jampit are very fond of badminton.
Among them, Tedjo (Mamiek Prakoso), a collector of goose feathers that will be made a shuttlecock, is a big fan of Liem Swie King. In his modest house, he displayed a photo of his idol.
Tedjo was obsessed with making his son like the athlete. He gave his son Guntur a name, which was King's nickname because his smash was hard to swoop. Meanwhile, the child is nicknamed King, which is the short name of the athlete.
The beginning of the film was dominated by communication gap conflict between Tedjo as a father who did not want to look "soft" in conveying his affection and Guntur who did not dare to convey his feelings for fear of being labeled lawless. Such conflicts may be experienced by almost all sons and fathers, especially children who have fathers with sports obsessions.
Every mistake that Guntur did and every defeat he experienced always ended with a 100-hour scam, a 50-round run, and the mockery of the father who might actually be meant to encourage: "It was named King, still losing." Thumbs up should be given to Mamiek in this film managed to escape the shadow of the Srimulat group comedy.
However, unfortunately the climax of the conflict was lacking by simply describing Tedjo and Guntur not greeting each other for three days. Maybe, preferably when Guntur was angry and scattered the goose feathers his father had chosen, Tedjo appeared and was furious, then broke his son's wooden racket.
Fortunately, Guntur has a stubborn and ridiculous loyal friend named Raden (Lucky Martin) with his kinky hair. With his silence, Raden borrowed without the racket permission from Kang Raino (Ariyo Wahab), stole the guitar strings to connect the broken racket strings. He also registered Guntur at a badminton club without the knowledge of his friend. With his ridiculousness, Raden shook the audience's stomach. He said that in a badminton championship cup saved a lot of money.
At this point, I conclude that the father who is hard - not rude - like Tedjo and loyal friends like Raden is the "anatomy of success" needed by everyone. Fathers and friends like that make the problem, like the strings of a racket broken, battered shoes, bicycle tires leaking become meaningless.
The director slipped humor that felt "very Indonesian" by utilizing our nation's diversity. In a scene, a Papuan-looking postman asked in legit Javanese, "Le, iki omahe Guntur?" So, almost all the audience chuckled.
Long story short, the black and thin Guntur was able to join PB Djarum, Kudus. He was escorted to the "holy" city by Bang Bujang, the Minang who was the driver of the colt buntung which was the only long distance public transportation for the residents of Jampit Village. After practicing under Haryanto Arbi's direct guidance, Guntur became the world champion under the age of 16 years.
Film King is dedicated to Indonesian Badminton athletes who have struggled to make Indonesia famous in the sport.
