1 Peter 1
1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who are elect exiles of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, HE HAS CAUSED US TO BE BORN AGAIN to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing TO YOU (see 1Pet 1) in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2that YOU should remember the words spoken beforehand BY the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles.
**[Peter's source is the OT prophets, Yeshua and The Apostles including himself.]

3Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts,4and saying, "Where is THE PROMISE of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation."
**[Peter was living in the last days of the Old Covenant. Mockers were present because they were aware of Yeshua's promise to return in that generation destroy the temple, Old Covenant and end that age. They even mock v4]

5For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water,6through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.
**[Peter gives an example of how the heavens and earth of Noah time was destroyed.]

7But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
**[The present heavens and earth, Old Covenant Mosaic Age is reserved for fire in 70AD]

8But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
**[see Ps 90:4 For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past,
or as a watch in the night.]

**God is NOT saying 1 day = a thousand years or 1000 years = a day!
He is basically saying if he makes a promise He will keep it whether it was made for a specific in a day or in a thousand years.

9The Lord is not slow about HIS PROMISE, as some count slowness, but is patient TOWARD YOU, not wishing for ANY TO PERISH but FOR ALL to come to repentance.

a) Who is the “you” in verse 9? see c)
b) Is it every single individual in the world? No.
c) Or is it to those whom this letter is addressed? See 2Pet3.1 and 1Pet1.1
d) Who is the any in v9? see c)
e) Is not the antecedent of any, the “you” in the same verse? Yep
f) What is the antecedent of “all?” Is it not the “you” in the same verse? Yep
g) What would they perish from? What is perish referring to? Physical death? No. Hell? No.
h) What is HIS PROMISE about? Jesus’ Coming judgment upon Jerusalem via The Roman Armies took place in 70A.D.
i) Was the Lord slow about HIS PROMISE? No, Christ stated He was coming quickly/soon/in a very little while, in that 1st century "this generation," while some were still standing with Him were still alive several times in the NT. He returned in that "this generation!" but most Christians through out the century have been misled.

Modern Day Christians are so committed to an idea of Jesus physically returning on a physical cloud that they twist and stretch words like soon, at hand, near, quickly, this generation to mean THOUSANDS of years by pulling out 2 Peter 3:8. This is a total distortion of God's Word in order to hold to a erroneous idea. Why not just submit to God's Word and change one's worldview to a Biblical worldview. If God wanted people to know that He was coming soon, quickly, at hand, in this generation, before some standing with Him would taste death, WHAT LANGUAGE WOULD HE THEN USE?????

STUDY TO SHOW YOURSELF APPROVED which means studying the entire Bible, old and new, and not just the psalms and NT gospels.
