Bitcoin rival Ethereum hits record high with 2000 per cent rise in value amid uncertainty

The bitcoin rival has now hit $250.41, after surging by around 2,000 per cent in 2017 from just $8.52, according to CoinDesk.

So-called Ether runs on a different blockchain to bitcoin and was only launched in 2014.

But its popularity has since soared - and its value has increased by more than bitcoin this year alone.

Ethereum has strong corporate support, which has helped boost the rally, as well as reportedly strong trading in Asia.
