Monomad ~ Poppy. Remembering Heroes
May 23th, Day of Heroes in Ukraine
Although it has no state holiday status, on this day, we honor the Ukrainian soldiers - the fighters for the freedom of Ukraine, especially the knights of Kievan Rus, the Cossacks of Zaporizhian Host, members of the rebel movement who where at war with the Polish gentry, the Moldavian and Hungarian feudal lords, the Sich Riflemen, the Army soldiers of the UNR, OUN-UPA. Something similar to Memorial Day in the USA.
Ukrainians desperately needed freedom and their independent country for many hundred years. And when peace became something granted, the war came back again and brought more death and Heroes - Heavenly Hundred and killed in the modern Russian-Ukrainian war.
Poppy is a very delicate flower, just as a human's life, and it is also a symbol of remembrance.
"In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row ..."
John McCrae
Suddenly, this shot looks better in monochrome editing. I just cannot pick up one, so I put both. Which one do you think is better?
