I moved into a van to travel about...

in #life6 years ago

Hi, people. I'm Kevin. I like mountain biking, skateboarding, and just about anything technology related. I work in IT as a Systems Administrator and enjoy it thoroughly. About 8 months ago, I started to get kind of bored with day to day things and was really craving to do something different for a while. With my lease ending in October, I had about 2 months to decide what sort of adventure to get into...

I ended up trading my car in for a 2016 Ram Promaster to outfit it to live in and travel around. I the majority of my belongings, keeping only the stuff I cared about...mountain bike, skateboard, and laptop...

When I bought the van it was basically just an empty shell in the back. So I had quite a bit of work to do. I purchased four 12v 100 watt solar panels to mount on the roof.

I bought 2 210 Amp-Hour batteries for the solar system to charge during the day, and my electronics would all get power from this.

I purchased a LED-light kit to wire into my system, it does all sort of colors and has a remote control.

I was able to piece together a decent bed using parts from IKEA and some hardware from Home Depot.

Found a nice 12v TV that doesn't take up very much space and mounted it where I can lay in the bed and watch stuff.

More posts to come of the adventures in the van!

Hello @zip512! It's nice to see you here!

Welcome to steemit @zip512. I admire your zeal for technology and travelling. I dont think I could do what you do, well maybe for a month or so of travelling but not permanently as I love my space. So kudos to you man. I absolutely love the idea of the solar panels; very energy efficient and economical. I would have loved to learn more about you in your introduction though as you seem like quite an inspiration and an interesting person but here is a future filled with steeming. Wishing you all the best on steemit and hope that you will enjoy your time here.

Oh just a little advice....when tagging your posts, the very first tag should be what your post is about so in this case your first tag should have been introduceyourself. This will make it easier for persons to see and find your post....doing that will also aid in it reaching its intended audience (hopefully).

@zip512, congratulations on making your first post! I gave you a $.05 vote!
Will you give me a follow? I'll follow you back in return!
