Somewhere in West Africa

My name is Eric Essuman. I took this picture when I was about 5 years old in our family house. Then, I was passionate about playing soccer, sketching anything interesting I could find and cycling. My grandmother was a very strict person she never allowed us to play outside home and you dare not go out after 4pm! She made me do a lot house duties; sweeping the garden, washing clothes, running errands etc I remember one time I didn't want to go to school because I was exhausted from playing soccer the previous day. I got ready for school in less than 10 minutes after receiving several lashes on my back!

Living under these conditions made me imbibe discipline and hard work very early in my life and they have been the bedrock of my successes.

How time flies so quickly? I am 22 now and there has been a 'revolution' in my dreams and interests. I can't even remember the time I played soccer last. Now I spend a great deal of time reading, ( I read about entrepreneurs Bill Gates, Carlos Slim, Akiko Dangote etc, biographies of men and women who have impacted our world), writing and thinking.

How do I make the world better than how I met it? How do I alleviate the pain and suffering of others especially in Africa? How do I put smiles on the faces of people who are hurting? The quest for answers to these questions is what drives me.

I am currently in my third year in the University of Development Studies in Ghana pursuing Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science. My aim is to improve healthcare delivery in Ghana and the world at large. I have visited and had talks with students in different high schools across Ghana---inspiring them to greatness. I want the generations coming to read a better history of Africa.

I was glad when a friend introduced me to steemit because I believe its a great platform to share my story of how I changed the world.
