Good evening fellow steemians!

I hope youve all had an awesome day. I would like to welcome you to the viewing of my first pictures taken directly from the Tasman sea!

Introduction...

Ive been neglecting the ocean recently. Previously, whenever there was a hint of swell, i would have dropped everything apart from my surfboard and rushed to the ocean like a kid in a sweet shop. But since the new year ive barely surfed, instead taking time off and focusing on other things including yoga and football. Its not that i lost the passion for it, but rather i became aware of other priorities in life. Alongside that ive been hampered with injuries throughout the football season and recovering most mornings after training and match days.

Today though i decided to go for a swim and noticed there was a bit of swell at Terrigal beach. This particular beach faces north-east so needs either a north swell, east swell or a major south swell to wrap around to work. It wasnt big enough to surf, but it was clean and the water was nice. As i was swimming i sat watching the waves breaking down by the rivermouth and had a couple of body surfs, only staying in the water for 10 mins or so since its a wintery 18oc. The waves were only waist high, maybe chest high on the sets, but dredging straight off the sand and imploding on the shore. As i walked away i thought to myself how awesome it would be to get some stills of them close up.

So i came back later in the evening, an hour before work, perfectly timed around sunset, with my wetsuit and gopro at the ready. The wind dropped off to a light offshore and i jumped straight in. After being thrown around for about 45 mins, and enough sand in my wetsuit to build a childrens play area, i had my shots and raced back to the car to get ready for work.

From the 1500 images taken, here are my top 5 from today.

Session details:

Im so stoked with how the pictures came out. Its crazy how some of the ones i thought were write offs came out so interesting, and im also really suprised at how much an image of a wave can change in .02 of a second. This was intended to be a session with a learning curve, so there were a couple of photos taken with lessons learned, such as:

Move body parts out of shot

Ive set my sights on a trigger pole to avoid the body shots in future sessions, and im still hopeful my foot modelling career will take off soon.

This is the first of many future photography sessions. Il be doing this purely for enjoyment, to get some saltwater in the veins and hopefully share a touch of the experience through photography. If anyone would like to use the photographs for desktop wallpaper or sharing feel free, i can also email the higher resolution ones by request :)

Massive thanks to the beautiful ocean im fortunate enough to have on my doorstep and mother nature for providing the goods today.

Thank you for viewing and have an awesome week legends!
