How to capture really great bug shots? The great thing about the iPhone camera is that its small sensor makes close-focussing super easy. No macro lens required!
I recently spent a week visiting friends upcountry in the Kula region of Maui, Hawaii, and their kids were excited to show me the little critters on their property. It was a no-brainer to take out my phone and make a little movie capturing their enthusiasm and the beauty of the local bugs.
The star of the show here is definitely the Jackson's Chameleon, which has three horns and looks an awful lot like a triceratops.
Trioceros, Chameleon Jacksonii
It got its name from the explorer Fredrick Jackson who became the governor of Kenya... and it's native to that area of Africa. But! ... it was introduced to Hawaii in 1972 and became a major invasive species -- it has the capacity to eat native snails whole, in one bite.
Female Jackson Chameleon's have very small horns, really just three bumps. Here's one that's changed its color to blend in with a concrete patio.
I know that you'll enjoy the video.... and the song is a super fun tune about bugs by the great Bobbi Gentry (the country singer who made the "Ode to Billie Joe" famous).
@anwenbaumeister -- yah it's really the perfect camera for something like that. Re YT, yup -- it's way better to have the video embedded in the page than having to jump out Maybe sometime soon the Powers-that-Steem will support vimeo embedding directly. (fingers crossed :)
Oh, my...I haven't seen such monsters in my life. I can not count how many times a day I get surprises here. Thank you Steemit, thank you @yostopia )
Nice to hear @borishaifa! Life is full of surprises.... :)
I still can't believe you took this on your Iphone! Such a fun video, also those two boys are too cute! I see you switched over to Youtube ;-)
