Diseases and plagues of the orange tree

source

Hello dear Steemians. In this opportunity I bring you a post about the diseases and plagues that affect the cultivation of the orange tree. Among the diseases we can mention pests: mites, whitefly, red louse, aphids, thrips. While, among the most common diseases we have: brown rot, orange gummosis, anthracnose. Below I present a description of each of them.

Orange plagues:

Mites: these mites are tiny. The information about them ensures that they can be divided into red spider mite and red mite. It is possible to detect them because the leaves turn yellow if it is the red spider, while the red mite is noticed because its leaves tend to be opaque.

White fly: this small plague is placed on the underside of the leaf and when it stings a dense substance that can generate the appearance of another disease called the bold. Added to this, this substance can also weaken the orange leaf by not allowing the proper functioning of the plant. Likewise, it can attract other types of insects. To identify them, it is necessary to be attentive to the possible insects that undermine the plant looking for molasses (pillbugs, ants, mites). It is also possible to shake its leaves to see if they disperse.

Red louse: this is characterized by having a reddish carapace. This plague, in particular, has a preference for the orange tree. It directly affects the fruit. It is possible to notice its presence when the fruit has spots, it looks yellowish and ends up falling to the ground.

Aphids: there are different species, but specifically those that prefer citrus fruits have Toxoptera aurantii, Aphis spiraecola, Aphis spiraecola and Myzus persicae. They suck the sap from the plant causing the leaves to weaken. The appearance of these aphids can lead to the appearance of the bold.

Trips: these trips produce damage around the calyx of the fruit although it is also possible to see them on either side of the fruit. This has a dry brown appearance.

Next, I present a brief description of the diseases of the orange tree:

Brown (or watery) rot: is a disease caused by a fungus. This produces damage to the orange tree root, which begins to distill a kind of gummy substance and generates the appearance of lesions on the stems, especially at the base that affects the development of the plant and the quality of the final product.

Gummosis: this disease is observed at the base of the trunk and it is easy to detect because it is a dark spot. It appears first in the root and then spreads to the stem. When the orange tree weakens, its leaves take on a yellow color.

Anthracnose: this attacks the leaves and the fruit. It manifests with a black spot on them. When it is not attacked in time, it affects the plant, affecting its development.

I hope this information is useful for you. Thanks for stopping and reading.
