Which is more precious?

I live in a humble town in a province where traffic seldom happens.

It only happens on three reasons:

One, when there is a parade, may it be funeral parade, a town fiesta or anniversary of an establishment parades around town;

Second, there is an undergoing road construction;

And third, when accidents happen.

(Well, those were simply based on my observation, anyway.)

This morning there was a little traffic along the highway. I ruled out that there was a parade going on that early, so it must be either a construction going on or an accident.

Unfortunately, it was the third.

A dump truck accidentally hit the street light when it dumped the sand and gravel. The street light fell and a passenger jeepney was hit. The tall fallen street light was a hurdle the motorists had to surpass. Thus, the long line of vehicles piling up.

But I was glad to witness the fast action of the barangay police who helped in clearing the traffic.

With a heavy sigh, I heard that the fortuitous event only brought damage to properties - the jeepney's roof and hood were badly dented and a cracked windshield, the street light down and the dump truck's rear was dented too. People around were somehow relieved to know that no one got hurt physically.

Methinks:

Life is priceless indeed. We simply shrug off when material things are at stake but we do feel with sympathy when life is at stake.
