My Favorite Bible Verse (A Thread)

in #lifeverse7 years ago (edited)

This thread was initiated by @csalupado. I thought it was a thought-provoking and faith-strengthening thread.

Well, it is indeed a challenge to pick a favorite Bible verse. But right now, I would pick 2 Corinthians 12:10 as my favorite Bible verse.

Does that even make sense? whispers For when I am weak, then I am powerful.

I like the rhetoric delivery of the phrase, being an oxymoron. I thought the Apostle Paul who wrote it was brilliant in using that figure of speech as it somehow makes a person stop and think — To ponder how it is ever possible to be powerful when weak.

And mostly, I like the meaning embedded in this bible verse.

Because yes, I am weak.

  • In a sense that I am imperfect. I make mistakes. I may not know of all the imperfections other people see in me, but I am aware that I am imperfect.

  • As I age, I am feeling weak physically too. There are times when my body is aching, is in pain but I need not surrender to these limitation. I needed to do the things I should be doing, like the household chores and work. Yes, I am human. I am vulnerable to diseases.

  • Mentally, it is funny how my surplus of forgetfulness gets the better of me. I always blame the general anesthesia injected to me when I gave birth. But I simply laugh it out knowing how lame of an excuse it is for my aging brain.

  • Financial problems makes me weak. The expenses, the bills, the un-ending needs of the family clings like there is no escaping.

  • Discouraging circumstances, disheartening comments thrown at me, the usual everyday stress, and what else is out there?

So you see, these weaknesses are overwhelming. Sometimes I feel inadequate and it is a scary feeling that it drains my energy, even a zest for life. But I personally experienced how God’s power make up for my weaknesses.

Trusting in him gives me resilience to face adversity, whatever it may be. The future hope of a better life is that one candle I set my attention to amidst the darkness.

And like a father teaching a child to swim, God allows me to use my power and abilities but i trust Him that he stays behind. He is tirelessly giving me the “power beyond what is normal”. He alone can keep me afloat in this “sinking” world.

Yes, everyday is not always a great and wonderful day, but this should not weaken me.

When things get worst, there is nothing else I could do but ask Jehovah God for help. Make a supplication to Him — that fervent prayer to the Hearer of Prayer. Then I am able to experience how His power can make up for my weaknesses.

I was nominated by my sister @juwel, thank you very much. In turn, I am nominating @cutirenski, @sn0white and @franbel to take on the challenge.
