Why didn't I introduce myself for all this while?

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Namaste friends!

I'm not very old here. Still I forgot on what date actually I joined. Just checked back my account and found it was only this month. I'm yet to discover a way to find the date of my joining Steemit.

1. I was voiceless for over a month.

Well, one of the reasons I didn't introduce myself for all these days was my month long resolve to go voiceless

https://www.facebook.com/xyzashu/posts/10154725966529423

And while I was voiceless, I didn't want to express my self with a voice or a pen or even digitally. I was restraining myself from expressing myself but was absorbing everything which was being communicated to me. I had not done anything like this before for such a long time. And it was damn amazing experience in itself. But that's a story for another day.

2. I don't know who I am

Secondly, I've always struggled to introduce myself. My words fail me when it comes to introduce myself. Frankly, isn't it difficult to introduce someone whom you don't know? That's the case with me. I'm yet to discover and get acquainted with my own Self. And thus my username starts with a XYZ (denoting my anonymity) followed by the first four letters of my name. But the advantage of this awkward username is that you can find me anywhere on internet with this same username xyzashu.
So guys, how many of you really know your Self?

Well, don't get serious. I'm called "Ashutosh" with an assumed second name "Nirvadyaachari" (which in Hindi language means "the one who follows a vegan life-style"). I'm 42, slim, light weight (about 53 kg), 5'10' high (when I stand up), single (unmarried), unemployed (professionally), agnostic, minimalist, vegan, curious human being... I hope it will be easier if I put a picture of myself here. Here you go:

So why I'm so excited about Steemit platform?

On an anti-dairy campaigning last year, I chose to travel a thousand miles on foot for a period of four months. Beside spreading awareness amongst masses, I wanted to meet all the influential Jain saints on the way. Since Jainism is considered the most non-violent religion in the world, whose followers do not ingest any animal products except dairy, I made it a point to influence their leaders on whose footsteps followers wish to tread. And when I was successful in convincing one saint with my message, he agreed to pose for a photograph with my message दूध छोड़, दया जोड़! ("doodh chhod, daya jod" meaning Quit Milk, Embrace Compassion!). And I was highly excited to share this photograph on my Facebook page. But Facebook didn't let me do that! As soon as I'd post, they will take it down. It was this photo:

Facebook alleged me for posting nude pictures. How stupid! Nudity doesn't always mean obscenity. Digamber Jain saints are minimalist to such an extent that they don't even possess any cloth to cover their body. And Facebook termed it nudity. That day, I lost my trust and respect in it. However, I was still continuing with it, I'm glad to find a platform which is really uncensored and decentralized. More power to you Steemit!

So here I am with you all Steemians. Hope my steeming around won't cause any pollution or energy crisis ...LOL!

I am a native Hindi speaker from India. And would like to write in Hindi and English both. Currently, topics of my interest are veganism, animal rights, sustainability, blockchain, and alternative governance models. But I may be writing on whatever fancies me. I write for the sake of writing. If you appreciate it, it's a bonus. If you are still reading this post, I sincerely thank you for your interest in me.

Here are a few other places, where I try to share:

Twitter, Instagram etc. links I ain't posting here. As I'd love to be more active here. However I ain't a frequent poster. But I love to read a lot. Do let me know about you and your blogs too. Can't wait to connect with all you awesome souls here.

Welcome to Steemit where people around the world come to seek friendship, acceptance and grow into their portential of being all they can be.
I understand what you say about not knowing how to introduce yourself. If it's about the shell > body then it's not so hard, in fact it's easy for most to share about their background > experiences > outward achievments > jobs, what a person does with their time >*Who you are is different. we become who we are from our reactions to life and the choices we pick from those reaction > to grow into the light or take on the darkness. Sharing bout that is hard for most as they don't pay attention to themselves in that way.
The steemian community is honored to have you, @xyzashu,with us.

What a great welcome message!

Thank you kind sir.

Thanks for your enlightening and friendly comment.

Ashutosh, thank you so much for sharing part of your story with us. It is fascinating. Completely different from anything I have been exposed to. I found myself imagining what it might be like to also go voiceless for a period of time. I work as a Nurse so it would be impossible while I am working. I also have a wife and 6 kids so that would be difficult. But I can see how it could be very beneficial. In my circles I have heard something similar called being quiet to here "the still, small voice".

Curious, do you eat honey?

I will be following you because I have a feeling you are going to do very well here. I encourage you to post every day. Continue to engage other members like you did me. Tell us all more about Jainism!!!

I would like to talk to you about translating my posts into Hindi.

Thank you! See you around!

Thanks a lot for your appreciation, Joey!

Regarding honey, I don't consume it ...I mean not only I would not eat honey but won't even use it as an ingredient in any other form like cosmetics, medicines, beeswax etc. You probably know that it too is produced by animals (honey bees). Even in Jainism, honey is considered as inedible and it belongs to their list of 22 inedibles. So you won't find strict Jain followers ever consuming it.

Thanks for your encouragement for writing everyday however I ain't a good or interesting writer. And a bit lazy to write everyday.

Translating never comes easy to me and it's quite a time taking task for me. Not my field of expertise. But why would you want to get your posts translated into Hindi? Are there good no of Hindi audience here on Steemit?

I did translate the subtitles for "Earthlings" documentary and recently also translated subtitles for a short 40 minute version of the documentary "Where The Elephant Sleeps". If you know Hindi, you can check the quality of my Hindi translation for this one at:

Thanks a ton for you interest!
