Attention: Author rewards are decreasing sharply! -- 最近写文章的奖励正在急剧降低
Look at the trending section of the whole site, there are only 13 posts which have author rewards more than $1,000. The highest reward is about $4000.
Just a few days ago, as a comparison, there were a few posts which had awards of $10,000+. And more than 10 posts had rewards of $5,000+.
Take the trending section of 'cn' tag as another example. The post with highest reward is about $130. This is incredibly low compared to a few days ago. There were always a few posts with rewards of $1,000+.
What's wrong? What's going on? How come such a sudden sharp decrease?
Price of steem is going down?
Reward algorithms is adjusted?
Users are quitting this community?
Whales are powering down SP, so everybody are earning less from writing?
看全站的trending，超过1000刀的文章，只有13篇，最高的是4000刀。
前几天的话，最高的奖励肯定是超过10000刀的。5000刀以上的奖励那是不要太多。
再看看中文区的trending，最高的只有130刀，大部分都是只有小几十刀的奖励。
前几天可是同时列出了好多1000刀以上文章啊。
为什么奖励会突然、急剧的变化呢？以下是我猜测的几个原因，欢迎大家踊跃留言讨论。
Steem的价格下跌了？
是奖励的算法进行调整了？
还是因为人气不旺了？
因为鲸鱼们已经提现了，导致写作、投票的权重都降低了？
it' more due the price decline over the past week! And due the 7 day average calculation - i would think it least - and also - more competition - which is a good sign - but the POWER DOWN process isn't the cause for less author rewards AFAIK
Price decline might be one of the reasons. But author rewards decrease much more sharply than price decline. That is the problem.
I think the best answer right now is that the delay of the 7 day rolling average creates a perceptual illusion of the price.
I've noticed the same thing and it's the best answer I could come up with.

This is correct, at least as far as I've heard and from what I've seen in the code. The same amount of Steem Power is paid out every day, regardless of who votes on what. The only thing the votes do is decide who gets the SP. I haven't done any analysis on this myself, but I suspect that author rewards aren't looking as big partly because the money is being spread out between more authors.

Rewards are becoming more evenly distributed. There are far more $10-500 posts now, and less $10k posts.
The whales seem to be spreading their votes instead of piling on a few posts. I think there was too much backlash from the community over marginal content getting crazy payouts while quality content languished and earned pennies.

price decline is just amplified. i take this point.
Actually this is something I wanted to see (aside from only the part of the reason why this is happening - decrease in steem price).
This simply means rewards are spread among high number of posts, instead of thousands of USD going to a few lucky winners. Here are thoughts on the issue:

Good point. I've the same feeling with you. More writers sharing rewards is better than a few lucky winners taking rewards all.

I would say whales are not so active in curating, or there are not enough good content posted. If whales stop curating, there are less money to spend, it means less inflation of Steem Power.
this is wrong, the amount of funds to spend is constant regardless of how much voting goes on.

I just found it in the whitepaper that the rewards are 10% of the market capitalization of Steem per year. So the lower numbers could be the more even distribution of the voting and the lowered Steem price.
It is well known that the rewards are 10% of the market capitalization of Steem per year.
But how are the rewards of 10% spent in a year? Spend in a constant percent everyday? Or change in a wide range?
Don't worry it's just because of the average weekly prices, that have already begun rising. Everyone is earning less because of that only. All should be well in a few weeks' time! :)
But I doubt that price decline is not the only reason. There are more reasons to be worried.
The highest trending post I've seen on Steemit thus far was 40k...... It was all good just a week ago

All the poeple with voting power know to use it for themself. People with tiny voting power will never get any where with good contents.

The 7 day median price of Steem has declined. A lot. That's all.
as I said in the article, the author rewards decline much more sharply than price. people are getting pessimistic.
