Mercado callejero 006.jpg

The photograph I present this week is of a controversial photographic style. The topic I am dealing with today is street photography. Let's see what Wikipedia says about this type of photography:

Street photography (also sometimes called candid photography) is photography conducted for art or enquiry that features unmediated chance encounters and random incidents[1] within public places. Although there is a difference between street and candid photography, it is usually subtle with most street photography being candid in nature and some candid photography being classifiable as street photography. Street photography does not necessitate the presence of a street or even the urban environment. Though people usually feature directly, street photography might be absent of people and can be of an object or environment where the image projects a decidedly human character in facsimile or aesthetic.

Having seen what the Wiki tells us, I try to expand on what in my opinion street photography is, and that is basically capturing scenes in any public space that are related to human activity or depict the daily life of a place. One thing is clear, street photography is NOT just a photography of a street.

How many times have we seen in the street photography contests of the platform a photo of a street without more than that? That there has to be a street? almost certainly yes, but there must be something else as I have explained above and there is a lot of information about it on the web.

The image I present today was taken in the Egyptian city of Alexandria, which like all cities in that country has its fair share of chaos. The scene is a tram passing through a street market, where the vendors have to move aside every time the tram passes, while many of them go about their business with the carriages passing just centimetres away from their stalls. I can assure you that it is highly exciting.

The shot was taken as I moved from monument to monument to photograph them for the purpose of featuring them in a guidebook about the city.

If anyone wants to ask any questions about this shot or photography in general, don't hesitate to do so. This post is open to participation.

We shall see. But I have little hope. Both organisers and participants find it easier to take a photo of a street than to work on a small report.

People are very lazy and the law of minimum effort prevails.

Thank you @silviadiez for your contribution and good advice.

Vamos a ver.

We are the hope!

That reminds me Lisbon with their famous trams. I love trams in city scene, the mandatory attributes are cobble stones, reflection of light on wet ground and also people passing with umbrellas. Love it.

On this photo I like the impression of perspective it is the iron rails that are running to horizon. You managed to capture very good moment.

Hello @stef1

There is something mythical and mystical about trams. Cities with trams seem more human, I do not why.

Thank you very much for your kind words and for your support of my work.

Hello @djvijay

Thanks for commenting.

Street photography is in one way, the essence of photographic language, and shooting it is also a question of intuition and searching the right moment.

Try to do it every time you can.

Sure man....
Thank you so much...
