I Hiked the Rainbow Mountain in Peru a.k.a when nature tops itself: horses, alpacas, colors, and literally breathtaking views.

in #photography8 years ago

A little story of my hike to one of few Rainbow Mountains in the world. Its 7 kilometers hike one way, up the steep hill, and in 5.2 kilometers altitude. So it literally took my breath away, but coca leafs were always ready to help!

So, you can already understand that many people, who possess less physical power than I do (sounds like bragging? beacuse it is bragging), had problems climbing the mountain. Good thing for them is that were there horses to rent. Bad thing for horses is that they had to suffer, because humans are lazy and want to reach more than they are actually capable of reaching.

As for the locals - they are crazy. By the time, I and my girlfriend, reached the end, we were completely exhausted and almost passing out... with dozens of other tourists. Locals, however, were just passing all of us with a smile, a heavy load, and full stamina bar. I tell you - all of them. They made this hike look like a Sunday walk in a park. Well, good for them.

On the meantime, I just kept walking, accompanied by my flat feet (yeah, poor me), alpacas, and majestic surroundings. The walk was painful, but totally worth it.

And I have reached the top. It took 3 hours and drained my energy, but I was proud of myself for doing it. However, people who are telling that goal is less important than a journey to it, must have a wrong goal. Just look at this unbelievable Rainbow Mountain and tell me that I am wrong.

Make sure to visit Peru and climb this mountain. It is a stunning masterpiece of nature!

Stunning scenery - I understand the altitude thing, living in Quito! Resteeming with the low acknowledgement you have here!

Thanks! Highly appreciated. Sadly, I didn't have a chance to visit Quito while traveling. I heard it is a nice place!

Awesome :-)
Is this referred to as the 'Ausangate Trail'? I'll be probably in Peru early next year and did some research and this is on top of my list :-)

Hi marcus, you cannot miss it if you are Peru! I liked it more than Machu Picchu (gilty as charged).
Ausangate trail is a 5 days treck. I did only one day treck, which takes you straight to The Rainbow Mountain. It was only opened this year, so there might be not so much information on the internet. But it is pretty straightforward: you take one of million tours from Cusco, leave the city at 3am and get back at like 6pm. Totally recommended!

Thanks for the reply - I'll definitely not miss that one :-)
