Why is it important to be patient?

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Often when you are impatient, you tend to make wrong decisions because you are always in hurry and fail to think things through. Impatience comes across as being an aggressive, not understanding, insensitive and impulsive individual. You may not notice it  yourself but the people around you will look at it in that way. Even though its often unintentional, its highly important to avoid impatience because you don't want to be that individual that people don't find approachable or perhaps find you impulsive.

When you are impatient, people also tend to not take you seriously. They assume that you're always just going on for yourself. So if you are in a serious and desperate situation, it will be taken lightly by others. If you want to be able to gain respect and to be looked at in a positive way, you have to try to be patient. A simple thing like being impatient can affect your work as well as close relationships with friends, family and mostly spouses.

Besides for the fact that you will be looked at negatively by people, impatience has a huge impact on your own physical, mental and emotional well being. It causes you to be tense, constantly stressed out, restless and this all leads to unhappiness. As much as you may feel really agitated at the time, you need to be able to control it. Sometimes the best way to deal with a situation is to stay calm, ignore it and think wisely before you act out and think wisely on how you intend to act out.

If you find yourself in a situation where you are feeling impatient, restless, agitated and upset, do not act out. Give it some time and think it through. I know how hard it is sometimes because I often catch myself feeling this way, servery agitated and impatient and from what I've learnt, always stay silent and ignore a situation when you are in extreme emotion. Whether you are extremely happy, extremely angry or extremely sad, do not make a decision in extreme emotion.

You often hear people say that they got "caught up in the moment". Do not allow yourself to do that. When your emotions are mutual and you are thinking with your brain and not your heart, you make rational decisions that you can't regret later on. When you are feeling impatient, take a moment, forget what is making you feel this way, breathe and deal with the situation once you have calmed down. The best reaction is no reaction because you can regret reacting but you can't regret something you did not do.

Practicing patience will give you mental health, physically as well as emotionally well being and you will gain respect from others. Always try your best to be patient.

Great post. I learned something yesterday about emotions... they only last 90 seconds if left to play out without intertnal dialogue extending them. So if we stop and take a few deep inhales and exhales and keeping thoughts of calm and peace... we can avoid the downward spiral! Thanks for writing this and sharing it.
