Valletta (or Il-Belt) is the tiny capital of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta.

The walled city was established in the 1500's on a peninsula by the Knights of St. John, a Roman Catholic order. The capital is known for its palaces such as Palace Armoury. As the main armoury of the Order of Saint John it boasts one of the world’s largest collections of armours in the world, which at its prime, housed arsenal for thousands of Hospitaller soldiers. A restoration project, completed in 1860 under Governor John Gaspard Le Marchant saw the Armoury become Malta’s first public museum. Though the collection was moved from its original hall in 1975 after aerial bombing during WWII, it remains a rarity to find such an established collection still in its original building.

You will find there a large choice of gardens like Barraka Gardens. From there you will admire the spectacular panoramic views of the Grand Harbour and the Three Cities. The gardens are perched above the St Peter and Paul Bastion and the Saluting Battery, a part of Valletta’s fortifications. From there, you can enjoy the best view of this Mediterranean natural harbour and it’s surrounding medieval cities.

Valletta also offers you a large choice of restaurants. WowMalta recommends you De Robertis restaurant. Located on the rooftop terrace of Hotel Castille in Valletta, De Robertis restaurant overlooks the fortifications of the Grand Harbour. From there you can enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Castille Hotel is set in a historic palace, the former Palazzo Xara, built at the end of the 16th century during the era of the Knights of St John.
