Flight delay compensation! Rules and experience!

Hi traveler!

Yesterday I tried to travel back from Alicante Spain to Amsterdam Holland.
We were moved from gate to gate and plane to plane, without getting anywhere, resulting in everybody getting cranky, hot and hungry. Me myself I'm not so fond of small spaces, being squeezed in between seats, especially when it's for no reason and the airplane isn't even lifting off.

I got discouraged and decided to stay in Spain for another few days.
I was so happy to find out this morning that when I called Vueling airlines, after some research, they payed my rescheduled flight for me!
So I wanted to let you know, in case this ever happens to you.

There is a regulation in EU law called 'Flight Compensation Regulation 261/2004 that states that if your flight has been delayed for more then 2 hours you have a right to a compensation of 250-600 euro.

This doesn't apply in case of extraordinary circumstances that couldn't have been foreseen by the airline.

The passenger has to depart from an airport located in the territory of a Member State to which the Treaty applies or
departing from an EU member state, or travelling to an EU member state on an airline based in an EU member state.

There are three types of flights that this applies to:

1. A flight with a distance of less then 1500 km.
2. A flight with a distance of more then 1500 km
3. A flight with a distance further then 3500 km

Mine was nr 2 and for a number 2 type flight your delay has to be at least 3 hours. Mine was 3 hours and 1 minute. Wow, to the minute. 😉
I didn't ask for cash compensation but a rescheduled flight and was given it without much trouble. I told the man on the phone that he made my day and he was happy because I gave him the highest rating in the service evaluation.
