Colourful Photography: The Krathong
Loi Krathong (translated as "to float a basket) is a festival celebrated yearly throughout the Kingdom of Thailand and in nearby countries. This comes from the tradition of making krathong, a decorated baskets, which are then floated on a river. Loi Krathong takes place on the 12th full moon in the traditional Thai lunar calendar therefore making the exact date of the festival differs every year. (Source: wikipedia)
Last year, the festival was celebrated on 3rd November which also happens to be my birthday. This was the photo I took in Chiang Mai during the festival. This is just one of the many Krathong's they sell on the sidewalk which you can use to launch on a river, canal or a pond, making a wish as you do so.

This reminds me of our annual Sinulog Festival!
Every January we dance to the beat with very colorful costumes while praising the Sto. Nino.
It is quite the same and different with Sinulog though.
They also celebrate the Lantern Festival on the same day. So lantern flying in the sky and Krathong floating on the river at the same time. It is beautiful. I have yet to post a blog about it.
