Rerun of my 3rd Post on SteemIt - Guess what? I didn't like the focus on Quality

in #discussion6 years ago (edited)

I started looking back at old posts, and this cracked me up...  Day 3, I hadn't even figured out how to upload a picture yet.

My Arrogant Marketing Advice to Steemit

Currency?  Social Media?  Which is it? If it is both you/we need to put a little more focus on the Social Media and why people are attracted to it.

Let's face it, I am really new here at #Steemit.  I have been reading the questions, comments and blogs of many members, focusing of course on those regarding #Steemit, as I try to learn what this site is all about.  If I am not here hoping for money, I am probably long gone.

I have been reading articles on how to write good articles, how to get noticed and how to earn.  That is not what made Social Media a hit.  Social Media is a hit, because you can find people to connect with on several levels.  Friends, Family, people who live in your city, people who like to debate a specific topic, etc.  So, you aren't just roaming through random content, you are reading and reacting to those with whom you have a connection.

There is no focus on excellent writing on FB, Twitter or any other successful Social Media platform.  In fact, all the discussion of excellent articles and writing is actually intimidating and will run casual users away.

Encourage people to post like they would on Facebook, little updates, family pictures.  Give people a way to communicate with others in a casual way like Twitter.  There are a limited number of Authors out there.  Although you may want to attract them, you do not want to run off the casual user.  Encourage people to write and to write often.  Give people groups, categories, pages and ways to connect.  If the users come the content will follow!!!

If you are trying to build a social media platform and not just a currency people need to be able to vote more often, post more often and gather information that is interesting to them.

My thoughts - as a Newbie

Well, I still haven't changed my mind, and it is still difficult to find content and like minded people on the site.

lol, it is fun to go back and look at your old posts.

When I created my first post, I had a very different idea from the one I have today. I thought that making money online was to create an issue. Over time and after many mistakes, I realized that things were not as easy as they seemed and that to earn money it was necessary to do a good job and mainly to innovate.

@whatsup,
Haha you earned a decent amount at that time! It's glad to see you around after getting $0.08 for that much of writing and where you are at today! That's what we all called as SUCCESS!
Congratz and you gave a nice advice to the community!

Cheers~

My very first post turn out to be my worst. It is an introductory post which i did after i logged in on Steemit for my first time and I had huge expectation for what I'll earn from it!

I guess you wouldn't ask me if I use #introduceyourself

It's cool that your top upvoter on that post @gardenlady is still active.

She was the first Steemian to engage with me and I'll never forget it!!

I'll have to go check my early posts sometime. Now you got me curious. It will be cool if Steem goes to the moon soon and some of the dead people come back to the platform.

You know what all this preaching of "quality content" and all those how to succeed on Steemit articles and tutorials on how to write a great post and... ... gets us?

  • Most people drop out before they even get started.
We have a HUGE churn rate.
    • Perhaps the problem isn't them. (The people who quit)
Perhaps the problem is US! (The people making up all those sasparillas "rules".)

Sometimes I find myself with some spare time and it kinda gets me down as I look at my phone and see Facebook with a little dot, meaning I have stuff there to look at. But, I've turned my back on Facebook, so I do not look to see who said what or see what dumb funny meme someone shared. Not that you can't find that here, but on there I have lifelong friends and family.

  • I'm enjoying dapps like dlike, because all you have to do is share a link and add a few topics and such. Quick and easy.
  • I'm enjoying @surpassinggoogle's #ulogs initiative, because he encourages people to share their lives. No mention of "quality" because "quality" is you. You are the star!

It is actually quite easy but does take some time to find great content providers and entertaining folk like you. I liken it to my strategy at business networkingh eventys. It is a lot less stressful if you plan on having 1 good conversation at the event and the rest is a bonus. Adding quality people to the network you support in the name of community is a slow grind and not a race.

Add 1 a day and post once a day are my newbie strategies I still stick with.

You were right. The focus on quality is ridiculous. We should be focused on becoming a multi-faceted social multimedia based cryptocurrency site.

hahaa...Everything old is new again! Twist it up, run it through again and get every ounce of good out of it. Actually, it sounds pretty damned good for day 3 lol

"Encourage people to post like they would on Facebook"

LOL - that would be two words annually... "HAPPY BIRTHDAY"

Actually my first posts on Steemit were pretty good really and paid a shitload more than they do now so I try not to go there!

it is a beautiful post.... Nice earnings also. It's too bad we didn't/find a way to allow for both groups...

Casual posters and Authors. I'm not an Author, I don't want to be an Author, but I like some people who are better writers than me! :)

I just want to post pictures really!
