For Discussion - Voting For Witnesses, Let's talk about it.

Do you vote for 30 witnesses?  Why or why not?

I need to up date my witness votes.

Currently I am not voting for 30 witnesses.  Are you?

What is your criteria for voting for witnesses?

Me:  Are they doing something I can see to help grow SteemIt?  (My favorite Witnesses all have different skills sets and contribute in different ways)

If you haven't voted for witnesses, why not?

Me:  Reasons I haven't voted.

  • It is difficult to find information regarding witness activity.
  • My stake (vote) isn't big enough to make a difference.
  • I can't find enough of them that I like.
  • Who the heck are these people?

Please discuss other reasons for not voting for witnesses if you have them.

This post is about engagement and discussion, consider joining the discussion and share with the community your challenges and successes voting for witnesses.  Maybe we can help each other pick a few to vote for.

Quick shout-out to two of  my favorite witnesses

@timcliff - he seems to have a great balance between the technical side, the currency and also the SteemIt community and the site.  He comments on posts, gather's Witness reports, gives information about hardforks and from my perspective acts as a liaison between the Witnesses and the community.  I always appreciate his communication style and the measured way he approaches issues.

@fyrst-witness - He isn't always politically correct and you have probably heard his rants, but if you don't hang out in Steemspeak, you might not know how much he believes in and cares about the SteemIt platform.  For over a year, through price swings, hardforks, broken reward pools, he has remained steady in his commitment to SteemIt. (between rants)  I have watched 100s of users come into SteemSpeak instead of getting yelled at for putting a link in chat, he talks about his view of SteemIt's growth, Steems' potential value, how to create interesting content, how to hold.  Once you get used to hearing a @frystikken rant once in a while, they are highly entertaining and often on point.

Let's move to the comments and talk about it...

@whatsup

Sort:

@timcliff is by far my favorite witness.
@dragosroua and @netuoso have been doing some great things lately.

sweet, I will look into your witnesses as I don't know either of those accounts well. :)

dragosroua made steem.supply and is very active and interacts proactively in the community.
netuoso hosts a full rpc node for public use.
I believe he also had something to do with the recent witness update, but not 100% sure.

My vote for @timcliff

Hi, i vote for two witness: @good-karma & steemgigs. The rest witness works for me is unknow. Thanks :)

@whatsup,
Actually I have no idea what this witness vote system do. If I get that idea I will set you as my Witness #1. I feel practical experiences of mine are includes into most of your posts!

Cheers~

I'm looking for the donut stand. Can you give me directions? ;-)

Honestly I have no idea about witness voting. But I do like @timcliff he is one of my favorite. I have checkout this witness voting thing.
Cheers!

Same reason as you... who are these guys/girls? We need more information to make informed decisions. I have voted for a few, but did not use up all 30 of my votes. I also need to remove votes from those who do not align with my beliefs for what is good for this platform.

Thank you for sharing this post @whatsup. timcliff is main witness..

I have voted for witnesses but up till now i still don't have a full understanding about their main function.

It sounds like we need a new post on witnesses and how to vote for them.

Yes, really. I would love to see that post.

Witnesses ensure the platform remains decentralized by securing Steemit on different servers around the globe. They also keep them updated with the latest changes, and keep the community informed.

Some witnesses are technical developers, and create programs to make the user-experience better

Some witnesses are social developers... They improve the community by helping the newcomers understand the platform, and reward them for their efforts.

I recently pitched an idea to become a witness, my blog is here; https://steemit.com/witness/@rcarter.witness/becoming-a-steemit-witness

Ok. Thank you. Will go through it. Though i learnt that it is wrong to advertise a post in other people's post.

It can be, but I feel that as long as the information is relevant...

Your question also did go unanswered for almost a week :)

_Rob

Ok. Thank you. Thanks for the concern.

"Who the heck are these people?" Haha, yeah that's a good one :P I just have like 5 or 6 people I currently vote for (ones that I really like). Although the incentive to vote for witnesses is low in the first place, like you said my "stake" ain't high enough. Anyhows, If I come accross more peeps I like, I'll add them, but I am not going to actively look to make a "full list".
