Spring Flowers- Pansies- Part 4

PANSIES
Just like Violas, Pansies are good spring flowers because they can tolerate cooler temperatures. And remember, Violas have 3 petals up and 2 petals down...and...Pansies have 4 petals up and 1 petal down.
They grow 8-10 inches tall and come in many different colors. The markings in the center are said to look like faces, whiskers and blotches.
They have a strong scent with the strongest being in the morning and at dusk.
Their name comes from a french word "pensee" which means remembrance or thought.
Pansies represent thoughts of lovers and were very popular in the 19th century, and were used in "love potions."

Pansy petals can be used as a natural dye and they are often used in potpourri.
