Day 194: 5 Minute Freewrite: Tuesday-Prompt: sweater

My mom and I had the same taste in clothes and we borrowed each others tops, like we were sisters. One Christmas, while exchanging gifts, we both had to do a double take on the name tags on each box because we used the same wrapping paper. We didn't live together, so you can see that we had the same taste, and not just in clothes. I opened my gift and quickly closed the lid on the box. As I was walking over to Mom holding the box, she was walking towards me. We both said, "I gave you the wrong gift." We opened our boxes to explain and realized that we gave each other the same exact sweater. We had a good laugh about it, especially when we met for lunch three weeks later and not knowing, we both wore our matching sweaters.

Sometimes, when I am missing mom, I put that sweater on; the one that I gave to her and that she wore. It feels like her arms are wrapped around me, giving me a hug, and I always smile thinking back to that Christmas day.
