OK Spanish progress report #1 : Fourth time's a charm
There hasn't been much interest in this OK Spanish project and I've had to do a more work-work to survive in society so I won't be giving any Spanish lessons but I'm still using duolingo to study Spanish and sharing some practice sentences with @pinaynomad in our Be Awesome - OK Spanish chat so this will become more of a progress report.
I don't know if these posts will be of any interest to anyone but posting them gives me more motivation to continue studying despite not being around any native speakers and being busy writing for steemit and my patreon , polishing up my music and practicing guitar, and trying to save up money to move. So these posts, like my Japanese blog, are slightly more self indulgent although I will share some useful ideas whenever I can.
My fourth attempt.
This is my fourth attempt at studying Spanish. The first was in junior high school and high school. Six years wasn't enough to learn a language and had me thinking it was the hardest thing in the world. I later tried learning Japanese on my own and learned that it was mostly an issue of motivation, study methods, and dedication, three things I was lacking. Now I know that learning a language can be a fairly quick and painless process.
Duolingo makes the process even easier. Each lesson incorporates previous lessons vocabulary and the lessons order is quite practical for every day usage. Still, my first three attempts, I gave up because I've been trying to keep my Japanese and Chinese up. I'm ready to try again with whoever wants to join and hopefully sharing my progress will make the fourth attempt, my final attempt.
Where I'm at.
I study about 2 or 3 times a week for thirty minutes to an hour, so not a whole lot, but I hope to be conversational in a few months. I've just reviewed animals and food and possessives and practicing I am/you are/she is etc. and basic verb conjugation in our chat.
Here is a list of the words I still need to review. If you've studied Spanish before try testing yourself
Naranja
Almuerzo
Desayuna
cena
Cebolla
Emperadado
Caballo
Cangrejo
Pajaro
Cerdo
Mono
Conejo
Practice sentences
Su conejo come humanos
Sus cerdos beben sangra
Nuestra bebe lee los diarios
Nuestra cangrejo no come almuerzo
Mis cebollas comen las naranjas
Si, es tu caballo, no es un cebolla
Los conejos son nuestros
El cerdo no es suyo
Su papa no es su papa
Thoughts
I think I need a little more practice with possessives. Chinese and Japanese have really simple possessives, no I/me/mine so I haven't studied this kind of grammar since I learned English as my first language. Animals aren't the most useful words but you gotta learn them eventually and it's easy to make fun ridiculous sentences once you know a bunch of animals.
Next up is clothing, question words, more present tense verbs and more foods. Tense is also much easier in Asian languages, not much conjugation needed for different subjects, so this is good practice. It's always good to look up some other words you want to know, some supplemental vocab. I've added blood (sangra) and humans (humanos). I'll use a lot more as I became more capable of making a variety of sentences.

I'm learning Spanish as well, also using Duolingo.
Yo comprende un pocito. 😆
Keep me in the loop of your study buddy
come join us in the chat! the link is in my signature at the bottom! juntos estudiamos! How far are you in duolingo?
Yo no comprende "juntos estudiamos" -- something about studying. Oh, googled it "together we study" right?
As for the Duolingo, I'm up to "Food 2" and I unlocked "idioms" but I'm behind on the entire effort and most of my "bars" are down to one... I'm looking for that chat link now -- Gracias!
Big baller! I practice every single day because Duo Lingo reminds me always if I missed a day. I changed the setting to advance or intermediate. Hopefully your 4th time is really gonna be a charm. :-)
What topic are you studying in duolingo, you still haven't told me...
I'm on Family and Sizes now. :)

Ahh it's been a while. I was able to read snatches at one stage because I went through a period of trying to read French (got there in a kludgy kind of fashion, but while I could read it I wouldn't have had a clue what you were on about if you'd said the sentence to me XD).
Looks like 4th time is the charm and having someone else along always makes it more fun :D
Yeah, western languages never motivated me like other languages because I don't feel like I really need to study those words that are KINDA similar or some that are almost the same with an accent.
