My favourite All Natural Jelly, AiYu (愛玉) !
Oh man, a cold refreshing cup of natural jelly would be good, wouldn't it? (Asking myself Ha!) I'm dreaming to have one right now, actually. They don't sell it here in Thailand. I got this from Taiwan, made it and finished it all already.. LOL
AiYu (愛玉) !
You may now be wondering.. what is it? I sure will get to that in a bit as I can talk like an hour about it. I love that stuff! This is not the first post I make about 'AiYu'. I wrote this post a while back when I was in Taiwan and got to know this thing for first time.
Taiwanese All natural jelly..
Yes! AiYu (愛玉) is all natural jelly made from special fig tree seeds indigenous to Taiwan. That's why I got to know it when I was there. It's everywhere!
Here's what the seeds look like..
I bought a pack from a souvenir shop in Dadaocheng Area roughly around $3 for the small one (2l.)
All these small white seeds come from the outside of this big one. Snapped it at one of the AiYu shops at a night market in Taipei, Taiwan.
All the passion I have for this type of fruit - jelly , I was so excited to try making it myself and yes, I did. Also made a mini cooking (KIND OF) out of all the process also :)
Let's do this! AiYu AiYu!!!
This is the first time in my life making Taiwanese AiYu jelly at home.. I was surprise it was dang easy and I'm sure you will be the same!
- A pack of AiYu (Fig tree seeds)
- Cotton cloth or bag (In my case, it came with the seeds)
- 2 L of water
- Lime
- Honey
Part 1 : AiYu Jelly
1. Put all the seeds in the cotton bag
and start washing it in the water.. The ratio supposed to be written on the bag. My small bag of AiYu needs 2 L of water..
This is what it looks like in side after I washed it for a bit.. and you could also see on my fingers that the water turn to be a bit slimy..
2. Wash it until the water turn golden..
It literally took me just 10 mins more or less..
3. Take out all unneeded stuff
That's it! That was the last step of the jelly part! Now you could just leave it in the room temperature or in a fridge. I put it in a fridge for an hour or so :)
Part 2 : Sweeten Lime Syrup
Lime, Honey, a bit of water
This is going to be easiest ever.. Put all in the pot, boil it and bamn! You got sweet and sour syrup :)
Wait till the jelly set and till the syrup gets a bit cooler.. dump the syrup onto the jelly and cut all in pieces.
Oh! Ice too! :)
Now it's good to be served! I'm telling you, this is such a GREAT SUMMER DESSERT as it's sooooo refreshing and healthy (That's what I feel like LOL). It's all natural, at least!
I totally / super / 100% recommend AiYu jelly if you're ever in Taiwan. You don't even have to make it yourself just like I did. They sell it all most in every market or dessert shops. I'm just an AiYu freak so I bought it home and made it. :D
Lots of lots of love,
