Ulog # 12 Kitchen Crisis

in #ulog5 years ago

Today began like a simple Sunday but ended up quite involved.

After breakfast and some java, Jeff stopped in to witness me battling a stopped drain. This isn't the first time it has happened, but it is the worst time.

Jeff said not to worry and began to dissemble the T trap under the sink after quickly draining the standing water.

As with most plumbing projects, they blossom into bigger projects. This was no exception. The threads to the top of the pipe leading up to the sink were stripped causing a trip to Lowes home repair center a half hour away. Thirty dollars later, we had what we believed we would require. My son, Ben had provided tools from his brief stint as a plumber in Fort Myers.

The two men began rebuilding the pipes below, and then the test came. All was secure and water turned back on. The pipes had all been replaced and old blocked pipes thrown away, but now it became clear that the pipes below in the basement are blocked as well.

Jeff and Ben went to investigate and after sawing through a pipe directly below the kitchen the blockage was confirmed. Jeff left after the men researched and it was decided a snake was required.

My hip is aching today after the outing last night with Jeff and my 18 year old granddaughter to Kranak's Christmas Store in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. We shopped for a gift for her boyfriend.

Jeff returned with a snake and the men disappeared to the basement. There was some loud excitement and laughter and when I investigated the basement, a terrible smell greeted me at the stairs. They dislodged some odorous blockage that spilled onto the basement floor.

They tried upstairs and ran water, but you can see the end results in the photograph. Ben and me had grocery shopping to do so all work is halted for now. I pray it can be repaired soon as dirty dishes will make me crazy! Thanks for reading.

My husband says each plumbing job requires three trips to the hardware store: 1) buy the parts you think you need, 2) buy the parts you actually need, 3) buy the parts to replace the ones you broke in the process.
