Time travel
There are pieces of me everywhere I’ve been, and some of them shine most brightly like a beacon, making me think: can you go back in time?
Over by the moon the brightness curve initiation of the night was still taking orders as I threw rocks and splice at midnight, an inditement of all I couldn’t fast away or pull myself together about.
I wasn’t selling any shares either, or expecting any refunds; just me filling my little corner of where I was.
Nothing was happening much in my little corner as the night progressed, so that far too soon it grew smaller, and became a smaller corner, bijou like; so I thought, now might be a good time to lean over and see if I could still touch my toes.
In the kitchen the next morning and looking at every unwashed dish you can imagine piled about the place, a peculiar feeling came upon me and challenged me to a wrestling match about all the uncertainty of the place I found myself in until I resolved to be more disciplined tomorrow and so asked the next question: If you can go forwards into time then surely you can go backwards as well.
The universe, being a very big place had many answers to this and began to custom my wants into the patterns I was thinking.
Hold on a minute, I said, is there nothing higher than the mind to make this up?
That depends, said the universe into my inner ear that was twitching quite a bit.
This is not time travel as we know it I replied.
No, it is not, it is the déjà vu daisy come to play.
I’m guessing here, but didn’t I see you somewhere before?
You sure did.
You got any dancing girls?
Of course I’ve got dancing girls.
I’d sure like one about now.
Coming right up…
I’ve always been kind of partial to nice dancing girls, and the one appearing before my eyes sure was nice.
The alarm clock woke me up at four thirty in the morning, with a milky coffee and a reminder note to say ‘thank you’ all day long.
I held up my fingers at this, and then took back four, which is ungrateful I know, but I sure did want to stay with that dancing girl.
This is not time travel either in the times of change in between the rounds of repeats where we meet to never explain what our love is.
As an enlightened being I would have seen you there as I see you now and saying this to me to be explained.
I am a lion in your cage.
And I never sleep.
I prowl the bars that keep us apart, to find a way through, to break you into a thousand pieces of dust upon the ocean of life.
You said you wanted to be with the one, the love, well now you are.
Are you still after the answer now?
Yes I am.
Then come closer.
I am adrift on an ocean of time
And as I cross it
I call out: now would be a good time.
As I found myself fading away into the cold fingers of doom, rustic angels sang songs at me to remind me that all is not lost yet, and if you would but wait a little bit longer, all your dreams will come true.
So I waited, and waited, all over again.
Enlightenment is not for everyone said the guru.
I turned up in Egypt eventually with my trumpet in my hand and began dancing in the crowd.
As the machine learnt my ways, I grew taller to fill the demand, a sensible precaution I know, but what else can you do these days.
I was going to turn seventy before long and I didn’t want to get left behind so I jumped on the band wagon and let myself be hauled along to the next party where I saw my face in every mirror on every wall I came to that asked whose father is this that comes looking for, looking for…
I was ever so brave I said to myself as I looked for another place where I could belong.
Oh, but I was so tired and just couldn’t hold the candle up anymore. So I began to wane, until pretty soon I was asleep.
Is it always like this here, I asked the camel master on his lunch break in the dream I was dreaming, a while later?
We have only just begun he said, and laughed.
An invisible ghost with the mind of a potatoe had been shadowing me all the way up the hill to the top, but when I turned around it was not there.
I’m not sure I like invisible ghosts, I said, but kept both my eyes wide open just in case it should appear as I looked round.
A huge hole swallowed me up then; so I said: thank god for time travel.
