March Madness

Day 22. I wrote 39,289 words by now. I used the prompt bark. I will only post a part of what I wrote. It turned out to be a problem to post larger content.

03-22 (Day 22) - word count: 1825

You are the youngest, D thought, and Charlie... he is next. We all are older as you are, way older. They have seen it all happen before. History repeats itself.

They continued their way.
At the end of the tunnel there was a long row waiting to get in. They felt relieved to get out. For the next 30 minutes they had to travel by land and find their way to the tunnel. It was the first one that went to the South. It would cross the train track as well.

Who knows the train will come after all, D said.
He stopped suddenly, listened to the sounds in the air. He heard the wind it was gusting through his hair and he heard parts of conversations, so did Courage. Both stood still, kept their eyes closed.

Alain waited and hoped for the best. He watched their faces.
After some time he decided to sit down. Had they forgotten him? He tried to read their minds, but could not. How come he was the only one without a gift?

As the wind had left, Courage and D opened their eyes and looked at each other.
I heard her, Courage said, she is not alone and was lifted out of her nest after they caught me. She said she feels sorry she left me, and has to stay longer. She is in a cave, they all are. Someone told her about me and followed her, told her I would come for her. I don't understand it. Who could know that I was going to look for her?

Isn't it a logical thing to do, you finding her, Alain said. She is your companion, you two belong together.

How come I didn't think of that, he giggled. Yes, you are right, he said, although he looked as white as a sheet.

He looks as if he has seen a ghost, Alain thought.

By the way, the train left. Blossom told me, D said. The operator decided to leave since it was already delayed. He must be very punctual. No freight just the four of them and they need to get off as soon as possible.

Four of them?

Charlie and Blossom did hide on it, but the driver took his companion along as well.
She's a child of the wind. Actually she is driving it for the time being. The driver fell asleep, which is the reason they have to leave the train, and... there is something else I should tell you.
He paused, wasn't sure how Alain would take the news... your father has contacted Charlie, told him to leave WE as soon as possible. The city, the city of WE is gone.

It was a lot of information to deal with.
Alain didn't know what to say. He was happy to hear his father had contacted Charlie and he knew now too their parents were not lost, but how come they had not mentioned to them WE was in danger?

Lost in thoughts they went on.
Courage walked ahead and showed the way. The snapshot of the map, saved in his mind, told him exactly where to go. He felt happy, with each step he took, he came closer to her. Soon he wouldn't need the wind any longer to hear her and she could hear him too. As a traveller he didn't feel the need to make a plan how to rescue her. It was pointless since he didn't know anything about her situation.

D kept his thoughts private and closed his mind.
He didn't feel the need to share them with someone else. He was walking in the same pace as the rest, keeping an eye on his fellow travellers. Courage didn't seem to be tired and Alain had not said a word about taking a rest. He had not told him how WE came to its end. Alain nor Courage had asked what had happened so there was no reason to make them any wiser. He also hadn't told Alain that the operator was not the only one who fell asleep.

Half an hour later after they entered the next tunnel Alain felt tired. He hadn't slept less since he had came to the club.
The three of them were standing at a central point. Some travellers sat down on the ground, took a nap, their companions watched them closely.

How do you feel D, asked Courage.

I am fine, I'm not tired yet if that is what you want to know, but Alain needs his rest. I can carry him for a while, but not both of you. Any idea when it's time for your nap again? Are you able to sleep now? If so we can stay here. Within a group it will be saver as alone outside.
As soon as we leave the tunnels we all need to be awake and alert. I am afraid the rumours about hunters are true. I don't want to scare you both, but they say they are hunting for all of us. I think we better have our rest now. They agreed with him.

D who hadn't slept much decided for a half sleep. He closed his eyes, but kept his ears open. He was laying in front of Alain and the traveller. Both fell asleep within 5 minutes.

How about giving it a try yourself?
With my lousy, unstable connection it is the only app that still works most of the times.
Simply give it a try. There is nothing to lose
